Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Also available from Wetherspoons in casks.
"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Tap at Lucky Baldwin’s Belgian Fest Fall 2007. A great opening, with floral notes, bright fruit, sweet yeast and a good balance. An amber that’s very smooth with no gritty or bitter finish. Quite good.

A good beer, but too much bitter for me. I prefer the carolus classic better.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange caramel with a firm off-white head. Aroma of sweet dark fruits, bitter cocoa and a faint alcoholic tone. Taste is sweet and malty- dry finish that lingers for quite a while. Medium body.

Bottled. Pours orange/amber with a dirty white head. Aroma is sweet dark fruits, belgian yeast, and has hints of cocoa and chocolate. Flavor is sweet belgian yeast with a slight hint of cocoa as well as sweet chocolate powder like a Nestle Quick chocolate milk powder. Very smooth and slightly over carbonated.
