Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Also available from Wetherspoons in casks.
"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Tap at Torronado. Nice orange, hazy color. Nice fruity aromas. Reminds me a bit of a fruit beer, strong notes of peach, dough and honey. Alcohol is well hidden, a very nice beer.

750 ml. Translucent, deep copper with ruby tints. Creamy quarter inch head endures and leaves frosting all over the glass. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, light apple cider and alcohol. Flavors of toffee, apple and earthy spices are balanced by alcohol and some woody hops. Medium body finishes with a nice touch of dryness and warming alcohol, but is a tad too bubbly for my taste.

(750 ml bottle (labelled as "Ambrio 1471") from 1828 Vintage House) Pours lightly reddish dark amber. A finger or so of biege head. Aroma initially has some Band Aid, then becomes a combination of fruitiness, yeast and candy sweeetness. Palate is quite soft . Nice bottle-conditioned fine-bubble mouthfeel. Flavor is initially kind of hot, fruity and sweet - kind of average Belgian. Then as it warms some more interesting and tasty elements start to arise - red wine and then dark chocolatey flavor toward finish. Malty rock candy and then some pepper in the finish. Nice bit of complexity. Some ABV apparency but mostly well-integrated into a nice warming feel. Nice peppery bitter bite on back end. Nice underrated Belgian I think.

Pours a dark copper amber with a two finger creamy eggshell white head. The nose was sweet, had some candy, funky, Belgian yeast, raisins, caramel, light alcohol. The flavor was smooth, had some candy, light rum and butterscotch, alcohol, sweet, caramel. The palate was full and lively.
