COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Also available from Wetherspoons in casks.
"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Bottle. It smells malty, chocolate and some wine. The pale beige head has a normal size and a normal duration. The body is brown. The taste is nice malty, some chocolate. Some wine in the finish. The body is medium strong, dry and light fizzy with a normal carbonation.

Aroma: Freshness, sweet and tart fruitiness (like cherries and peaches). Somehow stale (in a good way) and yeasty . Body: Slippery and foamy. Highly carbonated. Taste: Sour and fruity with a hint of caramel. Bitter background. Finish: Very dry, warming aftertaste. Overall: Refreshing and full of flavor.

Red-brown color and finger thin head. Sweet beer with flavours of wine gums and rasberry with mild hops. Carbonation is strong. It has 8% alc but due to sweetness you dont feel it so much.

Bottle: The aroma consists of grape bubblegum, fruit, and faint Belgian yeast. It pours a transparent copper with a three finger off-white head the fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. The flavor starts with grapes and Belgian yeast. The finish has some faint apple and spice. It’s medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Brown 33cl bottle, best before Sept 2007, drank March 2007. Poured slowly, oh so slowly into a Straffe Hendrik bowl, or chalice glass, whichever is the correct terminology. Slightly hazy, teak wood brown with a biege white foaming head, which stayed. Toffee apple and caramel aroma, sweet and almost sickly at first, the smell weakens as the beer hits the air, the bottle neck before pouring gives off an increadible cloying smell. Sour, clogging, yeasty, almost nasty, tinny, bitty taste. The alcohol is also oppresive, an altogether not nice taste. The aftertaste does sweeten up, but the overal taste doesn’t match the aroma what-so-ever, a very strange beer. I have one more bottle left, I intend to age it, the beer can only get better. I look forward to reading this in 5 years.

Bottle. Ruby amber with a dense off-white head. Sweet Belgian candy nose. Flavour is complex and delicious. Fudgey malt and jammy fruit. Maramaladey perhaps? Sweet and peppery Belgian yeast. Clean finish. The alcohol is by no means hidden but this beer wears it well. I’m a fan of the Gouden Carolus range.

Hazy ruby-russet colour with a big fluffy creamy coloured head that left excellent lace down the glass. Unfortunately the head stifled much of the aroma. What I could glean from the bottle was aromas of stewed peaches and apricots, almost walnutty aromas as well. A good smell though, I just wish there was more of it. Full, silky body and good persistent mouthfeel. The flavour is of golden queen peaches in syrup. Lipsmacking and then a good tinge of bitterness with an enduring bite of sour fruit flavours and spice notes.

75 cl. bottle from SuperBest in to a tulip. Lovely brown colour with some dark red hues. A good "glow" in this one. Huge, foamy white head that fades to big lumps of thick foam on the top. When opened this beer has an almost red-wine tartness in the aroma to it. When the beer has settled and warmed up a bit I get a rich aroma with malts and fruity hops: Bread, caramel, resin, and spices. Some good dough yeasts as well. Light sweet taste with hops kicking in. The only let down on this beer is the somewhat thin body collated with the abv., style and heritage. Creamy texture with a lively carbonation. Long lasting fruity and bitter finish. Excellent beer besides the palate.

Rich, amber beer. I had a pint on draft just to kick things off and it worked perfectly. It lacks some personality but it is solid and well made.

aroma: bread, floral, apparenza: amber, hazy, gustp: medium sweetness, medium bitterness, palato: medium body, average carbonation, nel complesso una birra media a mio parere..l’amaro è ottimo ma avrei preferito durasse di più nel finale
