Light aroma, pours from a 33cl bottle - hazy brown with smallish head in a rochefort glass, no sediment. Reminds me more of a quadrupel at first taste, not as syrupy though, but sweet all the same. Slight alcoholic finish that belies its strong character. Delightful.

02.03.2012. 0.33l Bottle. vinmonopolet.no. Dark brown colour with off-white head. Sweet malt aroma. Very sweet at first, but there is also some very good bitterness that comes in at the end. Very long lasting rich flavoured aftertaste. Rich body with lots af malt sweetness. Medium bitterness at first that gets stronger in the aftertaste. Since I like strong sweet beers this is really something for me! Very good.

Best of the Gouden Carous beers so far. Nothing original, but well done Belgian ale. A nice, smooth body.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mnoud (92) - Martinsburg, West Virginia, USA - FEB 23, 2012
2012.02.23 - 750ml bottle in Chimay glass. Pours medium dark copper, slightly red. Any head disappears quickly leaving trace film and ring. Aroma is a bit tart at first but mostly fruity notes like plum and raisin as noted by other reviews. Taste matches aroma pretty well and has those fruity notes and a bit of malty sweetness. A bit of alcohol and carbonation burn on initial impact but fades to smooth very fast. Pretty tasty stuff.

Pours dark ruby red color with medium head. Aroma of dark ripe fruits like plum and raisins, caramel malts, mild anise, some distant liquorice notes, yeast and some spice notes. Flavor of ripe fruits, yeast, sugar candy, caramel, anise and distant spices. Medium carbonation, mildly sour palate with a long sugary sweet finish. Very well balanced brew and excellent for aging.

Murky reddish brown pour with large light tan head. Aroma of caramel, yeast and dark fruit. Taste is sweet, not overly though with caramel, plum, yeast and a slight hop finish. Nice carbonation and mouthfeel. Very good beer.
