Het Anker Brewery still brews "The Emperor’s Beer" which is top-fermented and bottle conditioned following traditional methods. Its high gravity (O.G. 1080-85) combines the warmth of wine and the freshness of beer. Gouden Carolus is one of the strongest and most exciting beers in the world. After lengthy maturing and conditioning, it is bottled unfiltered, giving a beer which is rich in vitamins and 100% natural. Gouden Carolus has unlimited storage (it even improves with age) and will charm you with its warm coppery colour and rich bouquet.

Bottle. Aroma toffee, lots of diacetyl. Flawed. Clear brown colour. Taste is sweet, sugary, over-ripe fruits, lots of caramel. At least no diacetyl. Cloying, even into the finish. Grapes. Not my cup of beer.

330ml bottle poured in its own glass. A: Pours a dark amber nutty clear color. Forms a small yellow head. Not many lacings left S: Smell is very sweet like a Belgian beer should be. Candy sugar, sweet grains. Very fruity easters, dark fruits mainly. Alcohol T: Follows the nose, a sweet Belgian style beer. Sweet candy upfront, sweet malts. Very bready. Mild earthy bitterness M: Heavy creamy molasses body. Medium to low carbonation. Sweet candy upfront and mild earthy bitter aftertaste O: Very drinkable. A little bit overwhelming alcohol in the nose but still a great beer [ BA Review @ 7/12/2012 ]

Colore ambrato molto scuro, mogano, praticamente impenetrabile a bicchiere pieno.

Bue courant 08/2014.

Bottle at home. over 2 years old. Pours a deep, reddish brown colour with a medium, beige head. Nice sweet aroma of dried fruit, leather, heather, chocolate, wood and some alcohol. The flavour is also sweet with lots of chocolate, fudge, vanilla and wood. Has a sliky mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A wonderful, balanced and sweet belgian strong ale.
