3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Halfway between a beer and wine in almost everything, with a hoppy to grappy flavour, fresh earthy to fruity aroma and a dificult to explain aftertaste.

Bottle. Deep Reddy Brown with an off White head. Sweet candy fruit aroma. Figs, plums, dates. Sweet flavour. Brown sugar, caramel and a nice thread of aromatic hop flavour. A complex and full bodied ale with a nice dry finish.

A cerveja clássica da famosa cervejaria belga Gouden Carolus. Acredito que a cervejaria ganhou prestígio graças a ela. E não foi a toa. A cerveja mais equilibrada que já provei. Apesar de complexa, possui ótima drinkability. Tomaria várias!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured a dark ruby red color, small off-white head. Aromas are dried fruits, some sweet spice notes. Notes of barrel character come out in this (vanilla, extra booze), along with some notes of light fruits. Flavor is pretty complex. This is good.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark murky brown. Aroma is dark fruits, mild lolly banana. Taste is yeasty, dark fruits and bready malt. Overall, pretty decent Belgian strong, but not crazily good.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
11.2 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a murky dark brown color. The head is a two finger mocha shade, settling down to one finger relatively quick. Nonetheless, general retention is good, as is the soft, creamy texture. Thin streaks of lacing are left on the glass.
S: There are plenty of plums on the aroma, as well plenty of milk chocolate. Caramel and brown sugar also abound in conjunction with a well balanced note of bready yeast, pears, and apples. Really, itís not far off from a great quad - or Keizer Blauw for that matter.
T: Opening flavors are very strong in brown sugar sweetness. Itís caramely in a good way. Dark fruit flavors (plums, raisins, and the like) build up in the midtaste before the dry finish...thatís also laden with dark fruits. While itís fairly sugary, itís balanced just enough so to become non-cloying. Complexity is only lacking next to the aforementioned Keizer Blauw: this still has very good depth, even within the style.
M: The back end is moderately dry. I like that, by the way - it helps quash some (if not all) of the sweetness. Not a hint of alcohol is felt or tasted on the palate, but there is a slight warming sensation down the esophagus.
O: Excellent. Not sure why I held onto this single for so long, because Iím really digging this. Very flavorful and sweet, yet approachable and balanced enough. Fantastic dessert beer, and I wish I had more than a single of this.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown with a nice lobby foam head. Strong and full body of sweet caramel and nuts.
In the aftertaste I did noticed a slight of metal. I hate this, and normally Ill never buy a beer again when I taste this somewhere. But it was very far away and didnt bother me that much. Becides the overall taste (and price) of this beer makes it well!!

Bottle. Pours clear ruby amber with abundant, airy but stable light tan head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel and fruit with a subtle touch of coffee. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt with notes of fruit, roasty and hoppy touches, and hints of milk chocolate in the finish. Warming alcohol presence. Low carbonation. Nice.
