Het Anker Brewery still brews "The Emperor’s Beer" which is top-fermented and bottle conditioned following traditional methods. Its high gravity (O.G. 1080-85) combines the warmth of wine and the freshness of beer. Gouden Carolus is one of the strongest and most exciting beers in the world. After lengthy maturing and conditioning, it is bottled unfiltered, giving a beer which is rich in vitamins and 100% natural. Gouden Carolus has unlimited storage (it even improves with age) and will charm you with its warm coppery colour and rich bouquet.

Delicious strong ale, with a hint of fruit and brown sugar, just enough, in my opinion a must!

Nice aroma of boiled sweets, toffee. Rich, velvety palate and very smooth tasting. L’alcohol is invisible here, which is perhaps my only gripe.

Fantastic beer. Good dark color, not very promising on the nose, but with a great bouquet and a full flavored finish that leaves you wanting more.

0,75L bottle, BB 03.12.2015. Pours dark ruby with tan head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is malt, dark fruits, plums, yeast, and caramel. Flavor is sweet, vinous, malt, dark fruits, plums, yeast. Finish is fruity with some bitterness and hints of alcohol. It is very well balanced. Overall: very nice brew.

Dark brown beer with minimal head. Aroma of caramel and leather, slightly roasty. Taste is rather sweet but still very balanced, with notes of caramel, soy sauce, candied fruits. Soft carbonation, long lasting finish. Un délice!

Dark brown and opaque, tan white head. Aroma of yeast. Taste of caramel, raisins and dark fruit creates an overall sweetness to the finish ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

fles 33cl. Voor mij is en blijft deze klassieker eentje om altijd in de kelder te hebben staan. Mooie donkere kleur, smaak en geur mooi in balans

33cl bottle. Pours dark brown, opaque, with caramel head. Aroma of chocolate and honey. Viscous, but not overly sweet. Really does have the body of a wine. Flavors are dark fruit and chocolate. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark, sweet, rich, very tasty. Pours very dark with big head. Strong alcohol warmth and taste comes after - seems more than its 8.5%. 330 ml bottle at Little Brussels.
