Sweet and rich, just the way I like it! Wow, I’m surprised the average for this wonderful beer is as low as it is. Flabbergasted, I tell ya!

Classic art from the Flanders’ fields. Delicious body, fizzy carbonation. Important Belgian beer, among all of important Belgian beers. Light cloudy gold, light bitter. it is perfectly sweet and sour. White stable top. Strongly perfumed aroma of butterscotch cookie, port wine with cherry hints. Not very promising on the nose, but when you try it - delicious!

Brown color with a golden highlight. Medium tan head. Prunes, caramel, classic Belgian brown feeling, but very balanced! Foamy carbonation. After decanting, a syrupy feeling takes over. A classic, and a good one!

Zwart bier met schuim. Smaak is krachtig maar toch in balans, zoet, heel lichte rooksmaak, chokolade en caramel. Lijkt erg op een abt/quadrupel bier. Erg goed bier, smaak blijft lang hangen.

Wow. A perfect Belgian. I could write an essay on all the nuances and subtleties I enjoyed but instead I am just going to tell you it is far and away a top beer of the 550+ I have enjoyed to date and you need to get a bottle if you see it.

330 mL bottle from The Hop Yard, Raleigh, NC. Dark brown pour with a frothy beige head. Sugary aroma with notes of chocolate and light anise. Stunning mix of flavors with dark fruit, Belgian candi sugar, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee. Warm finish. An outstanding beer!

Hazy brown color with rich white head. Medium carbonation. Aroma of dark fruits, raisins, dates, also cherries, sweet malts, nuts and yeast. Taste is malty, yeasty, with dark fruits, caramel and molasses. Well hidden alcohol and a slightly sour aftertaste.

330 ml single, bottled 12/12/12, purchased at Biggie Wine & Liquor and poured into a Trappist glass. Deep brown appearance with a tan head, active carbonation, incredible retention and thick lacing. Aroma of dark, fruity esters, Belgian yeast, dark malts, candy sugar and light caramel. Similar flavor, rich, malty, dark and fruity with mild to moderate sweetness. Full luscious body, with a creamy, smooth feel and mild carbonation. Quite pleasant on the palate. This is a truly classic Belgian strong ale that goes down easy.
