Het Anker Brewery still brews "The Emperor’s Beer" which is top-fermented and bottle conditioned following traditional methods. Its high gravity (O.G. 1080-85) combines the warmth of wine and the freshness of beer. Gouden Carolus is one of the strongest and most exciting beers in the world. After lengthy maturing and conditioning, it is bottled unfiltered, giving a beer which is rich in vitamins and 100% natural. Gouden Carolus has unlimited storage (it even improves with age) and will charm you with its warm coppery colour and rich bouquet.

Butelka, warka do 21-10-2017. Bardzo wysoka, ladna piana, niestety dosc szybko sie redukujaca do obraczki, ladnie zostajaca na szkle. Ciemny braz z miedzianymi i rubinowymi przeblyskami. Aksamiltne, delikatne w ustach. srednie wysycenie, alkohol dobrze ukryty. Wysmienite piwo.

330 ml bottle with about a years age, dark brown color without much head. Aroma shows me dark bread, sugar, roasted barley, and yeast.

The flavor is light fig, raisin, pumpernickel bread, sugary caramel and subtle yeast. Secondary hints of spice and chocolate. Nice layered flavor, good depth. Medium body with a fine carbonation level, mildly creamy. Classic example of a Belgian dark ale, should be on your must sample list, especially for a lover of the style.

Color dark brown almost a burgundy. A Beige Cream, thin and low duration. Ties are left on the edge of the cup along the tasting. Its aroma is fruity with a grip predominance of nuts, berries, raisins, with a perennial reminder of almost a nice wine. The taste is sublime and mark the presence of toasted malts and sweetened and licorosa with a caramelized toffee, plums, raisins, truffle, roasted coffee and dark chocolate tones. Very well bodied and fully complex in its construction with a strong presence of alcohol by heat strength, but that at no time hurts the whole. Medium carbonation and subtly bitter end with a counterpoint of light sweetness. A classic that should be present in your cellar!

bottle at home. BB 27.06.2016. dark brown color. medium big tan head. strong malty sweet taste, some burned malts, bread, light liqueurish, some dried fruits, smells gets nicer after head completely dissolves, plums. full body, very bubbly carbonation, full mouthfeel. strong malty sweet taste, some dried fruits, grapes, bread, liqueurish, light (warming) alcoholic, some citric notes, light dry / light fruity sour (acidic) finish. Kinda weird one, at first I neither liked smell or taste, but both get better after a while. In general I dont like bitter / sweet beers like this one. But overall its quite decent. Expected a bit more though.

The word ’classic’ here may be taken literally. An amazing beer, with a rich taste. I can’t even find the words to describe this

Cerveja marrom, turva, espuma cremosa. Excelente!!!
