A giant raisan; in nose body and taste. Super sweet, complex and a little bit spicy. Slightly tannin, but in a nice way. Warming alcohol beautifully blends in. Worth the $16 I paid for it!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Color rosso scuro, quasi marrone, con riflessi granata, limpida, schiuma beige compatta ma non molto persistente.
Aroma prevalentemente fruttato: uva passa, prugna e amarena; zucchero caramellato, lievito belga, nocciole.
Al palato stesse caratteristiche, nota di cacao, molto dolce ma non stucchevole, sul finale leggera nota amaricante data dai malti tostati, leggera astringenza.
Corpo pieno, mediamente carbonata.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
The foam is a little flimsy in my Gouden Carolus Classic. The aroma is caramel malt, plum and raisin and a little spice. The flavor contains caramel, fruit (plum, raisin) and a light hop bitterness that leaves a dry aftertaste.

Complex flavours, nice warm sweet tones. Plum, nuts and caramels. If this is the 'classic', im curious about the other beers from this brewery!

Bottle from Saveur Bière. Big, creamy, beige head. Dark brown/red body. Smells nutty, wheat, apricot, plums. Tastes a lot of plums and nuts. A bit salty and very sweet. Bitter and sweet aftertaste. Not my style but a decent brew.

Sweet and alcoholic. Reminiscent of some Abbey ales. Recommended if you’re a fan of Trappists.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Alko, Helsinki. Pours dark brown with a medium-sized frothy head that leaves some lacing. The aroma contains strong dark fruitiness with raisin and plum, sweet dark maltiness and some spiciness, also a touch of licorice. Taste is medium sweet and very rich in flavours; initially sweet dark, dried fruitiness and caramel, later breadier and nuttier nuances that linger on into a malty finish. Very estery, very yeasty all in all, warming alcohol in the periphery. The palate is delightfully smooth, full bodied and low in carbonation. Rich strong Belgian that more than deserves to be called a classic. A good one for slow relaxation.
