tiggmtl (4179), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 24, 2005 Updated: Feb 25, 2005 Bubblegum, chocolate, mixed berries, biscuity malt and candy-like icing sugar in the doughy, yeasty aroma. Opaqu, dark brown coloured body is topped by generous, large-bubbled, tan head that recedes slowly to lasting cover with some lacing. Fruity esters suggest pears and apples with plenty of chocolate flavour. Fruity esters become wonderfully more pronounced as it warms. Medium body with soft carbonation that tickles the tongue and smooth, creamy mouthfeel. A true pleasure to drink. Bottle (Bieropholie - Feb. 2005).
Doppelganger (1206), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Oct 12, 2008 Bottle from Phil_l, via Beer Merchants. Thanks Phil! Deep brown with tan head that doesn’t just persist, but continues growing (slightly menancingly) for a good few mintues after the pour, requiring quite a lot of sipping away of foam to prevent glass overflow. Amusing. And the foam, tasty. Black pepper and green walnuts aroma, nice dry spicy chocolate flavor. Palate delicate and bright. Unfortunately my much more detailed tasting notes of this got deleted, so the waxing eloquent this beer deserved is reduced to just what memory held onto. Really enjoyed this one though, and surprised I’ve missed it so far. AvidDirtman (21), , Japan Oct 11, 2008 this smells like trouble! sweet alcohol candy floss, mild instant coffee blend, with assorted fruits.
Reminiscent of a very sugary leffe with less banana and extra bread dough. some cake spices.
seemed menacing from the nose but rather a mild brew all told. looks pleaseat enough. symmetrical lacing
and red when held up to the light. Poured a dark tea colour.
It grows on you as you drink. very smooth on the tongue, almost creamy, very little fizz whatsoever. just came back to the bottom of the glass and it seems that’s where the banana was hiding.
fine beverage, little sugary and leaves a full fat coke furriness on your tongue and teeth.
drfabulous (742), Columbia, Missouri, USA Oct 9, 2008 A king of beers. Caramel. Rich. Dark. What can I say that hasn’t been said? One of the beauties we can get on a regular basis and that’s what matters in this spot in the Midwest. We open one every now and then again.... Allen (644), Wölflinswil, Switzerland Oct 5, 2008 Bottled 33cl. Appearance: It pours a beautiful clear deep ruby beer with a wonderful nicely lasting creamy beige head. Good lacework. Aroma: The nose is of cane sugar, plums, molasses, figs, raisins, dark chocolate, walnuts, vanilla, glue and banana. Rather strong and buttery with some petrol sneaking in. Flavor and palate: Rather sweet taste. Full bodied. A lot of molasses showing up accompanied by banana, raisins and plums. Very smooth. Malty. Low bitterness. Salty yeasty finish with a hint of onion. Overall impression: Decent. Strong nose. Smooth. Far from being great. NoiZe (949), Zeist, Netherlands Oct 4, 2008 Red colored brew. Fruity, sweet aroma. Flavor is yeasty, fruity, sweet. Pretty balanced.
