Among my favorite beer styles and this could easily become one of my favorites in this category! Rock solid belgian power ale with a hefty fruity and vinouse nose with notes of raisin, honey, suger and other dark fruits. Flavor is sweet and powerfull with nice alchohol notes. Awsome! NJBeerman013 (761), Trenton, New Jersey, USA May 19, 2009 Draft. Hazy dark brown in color, very fruity aroma, flavor is smooth, fruity, honey and caramel. The body is full, but not heay. It is light and creamy. Very good. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA May 18, 2009 Dark brown in color with a good sized beige head. Aroma is of chocolate, caramel, raisin, brown sugar, and dark fruits. Taste is raisin, brown sugar, booze and caramel. Smooth mouthfeel with light carbonation. martinemde (1), San Diego, California, USA does not count May 17, 2009 2007 750ml tasted in mid-2009. Really great aroma of caramel and banana with a little bite of alcohol. I really love the smell of this beer. Still has carbonation and no gunk in the bottom of the bottle. Nice pour with a little head and the expected grand cru amber color. Sweet and lightly spiced taste with a bitter finish. carruthm (1110), Seattle, Washington, USA May 17, 2009 Frothy red auburn hue, clearish body. Aroma is strong in alcohol and an underlying sweetness. Big candy caramel, vanilla, syrup, some bing cherry. Taste is more subdued; barley, Belgian yeast, slight alcohol burn at the end. Can tell it’s strong but still holds a nice balance. kurtzj (11), Texas, USA May 16, 2009 2008 vintage poured in a snifter at Austin Flying Saucer. One finger head, nice lacing. Dark brown body. Smell and taste is fruity, sweet and alcoholic in roughly that order. A nice beer, but maybe a little too sweet. AskForJenny (626), Ontario, New York, USA May 15, 2009 Wasn’t much of a nose or carbonation. Nothing really tasted or smelled off. In the glass and even on the palate this reminded me of a flat Coke. Borresteijn (1347), Amstelveen, Netherlands May 12, 2009 75cl Bottle from De Bierkoning, to celebrate my 30th birthday and think of 2008, when I was still young. So, vintage 2008 it is. Never been a real fan of GC’s darker beers, but this one’s quite nice. Clear dark reddish brown beer, creamy off white head. Aroma of candy, raisin, caramel, a hint of metal, loads of alcohol. Flavour is very sweet, malts, dark fruits, alcohol, prickly alcoholic finish. Just like other GC dark beers this one is very sweet, but the mouthfeel is so soft and creamy it doesn’t become cloying. It is rather one-dimensional in flavour though, not complex enough to be really great, but still good.
