Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

2013 vintage. Pours a cola colour with nice fluffy 3 finger head that holds nicely for a good while. Aromas of dark fruits - dates, prunes, plums and cherries with toffee and dark chocolate. Wow. The taste is sweet but magnificent. Cherries, plums, raisins, caramel, with a pleasant booziness about it. Med to full bodied, slick in the mouthfeel. Excellent dessert sipper.

-2012 vintage- Pours a dark brown with small tan head. Aroma is cherry, toffee, dark fruit, brown sugar, baileys, noble hops, complex spicy Belgian yeast and some alcohol. Vinous, fruity and slick palate. Aftertaste is sweet cherry, spice, floral, toffee and a lingering spicy/dry alcohol finish. 750 ml 2012 edition, aged 2 years. Poured a heavily unfiltered deep brown with an average tan top. Taste of caramel, candied apples and dark fruit. Medium carbonation, medium sticky body. Alcohol is hidden exceptionally well.

Bottle at Belgian Beer Weekend. Deep dark brown, tan head. Sweet plum and liquorice aroma. Taste is initially quite light, but then hit with a rollercoaster of plum, chocolate and caramel malts. And a massive hit of booze. What a drink!

Bottle. Aroma is light, fruity, plums, chocolate. Clear dark brown colour. Taste is very well balanced. Obviously heavily on sweet side, but there is a decent unglorified bitterness in the background. Fruity, raisins, plums. Also strong malt, caramel. Warm alcoholic finish, which reveals the potency. Very good.
