Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

Beautiful brown textur with a sweet smell. Taste like prunes and molasse, non intense, just perfect. Great beer for a late night talk. Cheers.

Bottle kindly shared by Peter. Amber with a minimal head. Aroma has marzipan, raisins and loads of sweet maltiness. Taste is sweet, slightly vinous with caramel, raisin and a light hop bitterness. Full body, low carbonation, smooth mouth feel.

This was fun. One person brought a 2007 and another brought a 2013 to the bottle share. The score reflects the 2013. The 2007 was fairly flat. It also picked up the banana bread taste. The 2013 was much more carbed. Had a much more pleasant sweetness to it. Nice Belgian taste. 8 years was way to long for the person to cellar this one.

(bottle) clear deep amber-brown colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of melted butter, powdered sugar and earth, with lots of liquorice, alcohol and a hint of sugar icing. flavour is cloyingly sweet, lots of raisins, roasted malts and melted butter, with a touch of salted popcorn and some alcohol in the finish. heavy-bodied with fizzy carbonatzion.

Brown clear with medium beige head. Mild acidic aroma. Sweet, bit too sweet for me, with good sourness, sweet aftertaste.
