Rune (2744), Tromsø, Norway Sep 21, 2009 750ml compact bottle from Vinmonopolet shared as an aperitif. Gives a good, smoky shot when the cork and wire cradle are released from the bottle. Initial huge, dense beige head over a deep, ruby body. Aromatic to the nose with prunes and other kinds of sweet, dark fruits. Dark fruits and dark berries in flavour with well integrated heating from the alcohol. Sherry-like textured. Full bodied. Slow sipper and just the right choice before dinner (weekend at Elsas in Skibotn, 28.08.2009). decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Sep 18, 2009 A brown pour with light tan head and lace. Aroma is brown sugar and a musty hay. A thick sweet flavor of almost molasses with some breadiness, Abv is there but not in a bad way. Aggressive to smooth in one drink carbonation on a full bodied beer. Very nice kappldav123 (1788), Markkleeberg, Germany Sep 18, 2009 Bottle from 2001 - LCRBM 2009. Dark brown, small head. Complex malty and old aroma. Starts soft like velvet, fine malty, modest alcoholic, very well balanced. Finish still soft malty, fruity notes and some cinnamon. Great beer! TheHulk (106), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Sep 14, 2009 smells of dark malts but is very overshadowed by banana and fruit. A dark reddish brown that seems like it’s just brown until you get some light right through it. The dark malt REALLY comes out in the flavour, almost no aftertaste, just a bit of alcohal. Smooth and creamy on the tounge, eases up the alcohal falvour. A really nice beer, this was a 2008. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 13, 2009 2008 vintage. Cork was hard as hell to get off of this bottle...but it was worth the fight. Redish brown pour with tan head. Belgian yeast and dark fruits on the nose. Flaor is full with caramel, malts, dark fruits, spice, fig and happiness. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Sep 11, 2009 Vintage 2007 drank 9/11/9. Cork pops off nicely and aromas of dark fruit and yeast fill the air. Pouring brings out some sweet carmalized malt and bannana. Pours brownish-red with a head that dissipates fast to an off white lace around the glass. Flavor is sweet, there is some bannana that hits you up front and a nice caramel and fig finish. A little alcohol burn in the finish but not too bad for a big beer. Mouthfeel is oily with low carbonation. Overall this brew hits you with strong fruit flavors and a shot of alcohol in the finish. This brew had 2 years on it, I think it can go easily 2-4 more years possibly up to 10 years. mixos (50), Greece Sep 8, 2009 I consider this beer as the best of all beers from Het Anker. One of my best strong ales. Not the absolut emperor of Belgian labels, but surely one of them. BillKismet (1894), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 3, 2009 Extremely high carbonation and overly foamy head fills 3/4 the glass. HIghly carbonated, dark caramel-amber body. Airy, clean yeast aroma that hints at distant esters and phenols, but you need to seek them out. Full yeasty body, sturdy amber malt backbone. Alcohol is well-masked. Strong caramel and prune overtones. Smooth bodied and rather viscous.
