moelikebeer (219), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 2, 2008 Corked bottle. Medium dark brown pour, nce size head. Aroma of sweet malt and dark fruits. Taste of dark fruit, malts, candi sugar. Just a hint of hops and alcohol in the finish. Nice carbonation and mouthfeel. Great beer and much preferred to the red. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada May 31, 2008 Bottle - 750ml. Nice cloudy brown body with a thin beige foamy head. Very well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with fruity, brown sugar, and vanilla hints. Alcohol is perfectly hidden. Its awesome taste is mild, complex and perfectly balanced. It carries very enjoyable fruity and sweet notes. Ends with a long, warming finish. This is a wonderful winter warmer. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA May 30, 2008 Rating 2003 Vintage - Just a phenomenal beer. Everytime I try this beer I’m impressed at how easy it ages. With this particular vintage, the beer was just as smooth as silk. So easy to drink. The aroma has big notes of sweet, caramel malts, pureed raisins, brown sugar, with some really intense vinous notes that I always enjoy. The flavor substantially gets better with each sip. Rum soaked raisins, raisin bread, toffee, brown sugar, dark candi, and some alcohol round out this beer. One of the best BSA’s you can get your hands on. If you can, resist the urge to open it up and let it age for 3-5 years. It will well be worth it. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA May 28, 2008 Pour is clear brown with a tight bubbled off white head. Aroma of cinnamon, maple, licorice, fig, and banana. A slight syrupy cloying mess here. I am not so impressed with this brew. It is by no means a drain pour, but still this was tough for me to keep drinking. Sticky palate. The licorice is a little overpowering. I actually prefer the regular Gouden to this beer. Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA May 24, 2008 Aroma is fairly strong, malty and yeasty with an undertone of hard apple cider. Color is a clear, dark reddish brown with a thick, fluffy, light tan head. Flavor is malty with a hint of molasses and a fairly strong alcohol bite - not surprising since it has an alcohol content comparable to a barleywine. Texture has quite an edge to it, and the malty aftertaste has a little sweetness. An excellent Belgian, worth seeking out. Naven (864), Poway, California, USA May 23, 2008 Bottle, shared by my neighbor, Tom. Wow, was this ever good. Dark amber/brown color. Nice fruity nose. Brown sugar, caramel, fruit and hops. Very very good. Probably the best beer I have had in several weeks. BeerEssential (96), Massachusetts, USA May 22, 2008 (2007) Prominent sweet caramel-raisin aroma. Deep, dark, almost opaque brown/red with a long lasting, creamy tan head. Sweet and thick fig/raisin/vanilla taste. Quick finish. A sense of the 10% ABV, but not overwhelming. Very nice, but in restrained amounts. Would make a great after-dinner treat. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland May 22, 2008 Bottle at home 2007 ... Deep ruby red ...
