RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA May 20, 2008 Reddish amber pour with a decent enough off-white head. Aroma is thick with dried dark fruits and sweet malts: figs, raisins, maybe a hint of black cherry. Flavor is very rich with a big alcohol presence. Sweet and malty, rife with the aforementioned fruits. Sugary and full bodied. Excellent. Chipper (179), Red Lion, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2008 Bought a single (2007) in Lewes Delaware.
Beautiful dark amber color with a sweet aroma. Very malty with a warm alcohol burn. Excellent brew and I’d buy it again for sure.
(Side note, a friend just told me that I had tried this two years ago, when I was still on the yellow fizzy water, and I said it was awful. Shows you how one can evolve.) webjedi (249), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA May 18, 2008 (had this on tap, I have a bottle in reserve here at home, so I will update this) Pretty damn nice and pleasant. Packed a whallop in alcohol content. Being a fan of malts, this worked for me. The dried fruits, for me, gravitated towards a dried citrus . Plesant yeast character. (On Tap 02/2008 - Pizza Paradiso, Georgetown) sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA May 18, 2008 Tingly carbonation that reminded me of the Rodenbach Grand Cru.
Clear note of cherry, licorice, sweet candy sugar. pours dark amber BeerFanDan17 (610), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA May 18, 2008 An incredible grand cru style strong Belgian ale. Flavors were intensely of licorice and cherry. A very good brew! IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA May 17, 2008 Pour was very dark golden with fluffy light tan head. Aroma was strong of malt, caramel, and dark fruit. Flavor was very malty with bigger notes of dark fruit and some caramelization. Alcohol hidden well. Body was a medium to full with a sweet finish. Good brew. Would buy again. Habanero (610), Tranbjerg, Denmark May 17, 2008 Updated: May 8, 2009Bottle, 2004-vintage. Pours hazyand dark brown with a little beige head. Nose of caramel and dried fruits and yeast. Flavour of dried fruits, liquorice, spices, yeast. Full bodied. Slightly alcoholic finish. A very nice brew.
illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA May 16, 2008 Updated: Sep 1, 2008Bottle from Frugal MacDoogal in Nashville. Pours amber mahogany with a beige head. Aroma of yeast, cherries, wheat malt, and banana. Full bodied with a oily and sticky texture. Initial flavor of vanilla, cherries, plums that transitions to yeasty and dusty middle, with a moderate amount of residual sweetness. Finish has a touch of alcohol. This was good, but lacks a wow factor. At a 99 rating, I was expecting something much better. Perhaps some time in the cellar will improve this for my palate.
