PhillyHomeBrew (176), Forest Hills, New York, USA Nov 28, 2007 dark opaque body with a thick brown head. There are aromas of raisins and a lot of caramel scent. The flavor has a ton of roasted malt and prune taste. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Nov 25, 2007 A very fine drink. Almost zero head, as Belgians tend. Very dark and sumptuous - a quad I think? Notes of fig, black currant, almost mincemeat. Though it sounds like it would be a sweet beer, I assure you this is not the case. A flavor of odd alien fruits and ancient spirits. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA Nov 21, 2007 2003 Bottle. Garnet pour with no head. Slightly plastic tasting. Sweet and malty. Nice. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Nov 15, 2007 750 ml. bottle, 2006 vintage. Pours out a clear mahogany with a creamy light beige head. Fruity aroma punctuated by caramel and vanilla. Medium/full body, light carbonation and a rich, smooth mouthfeel. Sweet malty flavors dominate, with very gently bitterness at the finish. Luxurious, rich, and satisfying. Alcohol not really apparent. BartC (398), Lichtaart, Belgium Nov 11, 2007 Version 2005. Brown red beer with a small beige head. Lot of port and madeira in aroma and flavor. Alcohol as well. tarjei (1741), Bryne, Norway Nov 6, 2007 75 cl bottle, 2005. Brown/reddish color, small brown head. Complexe sweetness, alcohol, malt, fine bitterness. Lovely. (RBNAG’07 in Grimstad Nov. 3th.) OleR (2007), Oslo, Norway Nov 6, 2007 2005 bottle. A clear dark amber pour with a firm lightly tanned head. Inviting sweet aromas of toffee/caramel, candysugar and dark dried fruits. Notes of light acidic fruitiness. Sweet-flavored, mainly malt-sweetness with a delicate refreshing fruit-sweetness (apples, sweet lemon and tropical). Mild spicy and herbal notes. Medium to full body. Smooth and oily mouthfeel. A great beer. (Bottle @ RBNAG’07) maltdog (509), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 5, 2007 2006, "Lot 0650". Murky rust color, small yet incredibly creamy ecru head. Thin wispy strands of lace. Comforting aromas of brown sugar, rum-soaked fruitcake, banana peel, and vanilla. Flavorwise, a study in sugary decadence: candied figs, plum, maple/molasses, anise, pear. No detectable hop presence. Aftertaste exudes peppery etahnolic heat and bittersweet chocolate-banana-cherry. Although the texture is pillow soft, it is sadly overfilling and syrupy... finishing the bottle proved a challenge. Definitely a dessert sipper akin to an after-dinner liqueur.
