mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA May 26, 2007 Pours a dark malty brown with a small white head. The aromas consist of some dark fruit, caramel, and candy sugar. Smells delicious. The taste was much the same. The sweetness just coats the palate fully, smooth caramel and fruity flavors coincide well together. Sweet, but not too much. Leaves a nice cinnamon flavor on the lips in the aftertaste. Excellent brew. Bravo. DMRz (218), Durham, North Carolina, USA May 26, 2007 Dark reddish brown color with virtually non-existent white head. The aroma reminds me of Kasugai apple gumi fruit snacks from Japan (sort of too sweet apple, petrochemical, and bubblegum). Flavor is of toasted malt and caramel. A very nice beer with well balanced alcohol. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA May 25, 2007 2006 bottle pours a hazy plum color. Aromas of prunes, oak tannin, brown sugar. Sweet and complex. Their seems to be an oak aged sourness to it. Lots of dark fruit, sugar coated dates and candy sugar. A bit of bitter chocolate in the end. Alcohol is well hidden. mhelgason (495), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA May 22, 2007 2006 vintage bottle. Clear dark-ruby pour with small (quickly dissapating) tan head. Decent lacing is left on glass. Aromas of chocolate covered cherries, figs, raisans, and light alcohol were noted. Highly, but not overly, carbonation. Medium bodied. Sticky mouthfeel. Very long duration of finish. Alcohol warming is present (other than that the alcohol is almost not noticeable). One of the best I have had! Theis (3617), Denmark May 18, 2007 Bottle (2005 + 2007) at Københavnske Øldage 2007. Clear red/brown - offwhite head. Licorice, dried fruits, high carbonated, roasted, ryebread, raisins, sharp. A bit like the Christmas beer. 2005 edition is a bit softer than 2007, but no major difference. Not as fantastic as expected !! malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA May 14, 2007 2006 bottle in May 2007, from a Westmalle glass. My first rating, so gimme a break please. Notes of coffee and chocolate in aroma. (I need to eat some raisins and figs to know what they taste like, I guess.) Dark brown and nearly opaque. Beautiful fine beaded head and good lacing. Delicious flavors of chocolate, woodsy, with some winelike alcohol. Excellent mouthfeel, medium-to-full bodied yet smooth, thanks to reasonably low carbonation. A very enjoyable strong dark Belgian. Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden May 14, 2007 Bottle at the Copenhagen Beer festival 2007: 2004 Vintage.
