Commercial Description:
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

750ml bottle. Pours a clear brown/amber with a small tan head that fades to a ring and leaves good lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel, rum raisin, cherries, plums, and alcohol. Taste is the same as aroma but more intense. Medium full mouthfeel with a mild bitterness and a wonderfull alcohol warmth as it goes down. My favorite Gouden Carolus.

Sweet salty smell with some spice to it. Carbonated dark body with plenty of head. Spicy sweet malt body.

From a 750ml bottle, 2006 vintage, pours a semi-clear dark brownish brew with an off white fizzy head. Dissolves quickly to a fine film. Aroma is complex with sweet pitted fruit, cherries, dates, bananas and some walnuts. Taste is slightly tart, thick on the tongue and a sweet after taste. During Cellar’s Wine & Spirits tasting, they made a beer bread which is one of the best ones. Has a slight taste like banana nut bread with beer.

Nice dark brown/orange color. Smell is dark fruits, alcohol, brown sugar. Taste is much the same, some plum, fig, raisin, burnt sugar, with a nice alcohol kick. Fairly sweet, but a nice brew.

This offering has been aged since 2004, so it is about 3 years old. It pours a dark brown, with some light penatration. Leaving no head at all, the aroma is dark pitted fruit, plum, pears, raisins, dark syrup, wow so complex and sweet leaving a port like quality for all to admire. The taste starts cordial, moving to just a faint amount of hops but showcasing a malty, sweet, syrupy delight. The taste mirrors the nose dark fruit, raisins, plums, prunes, and finishes syrupy in the back of the palate. This is one fanastic aged brew and I’m glad I got a full growler of this one.

Candy sugar, apple, very complex, but it ends up too sweet for my liking. Maybe some more years in the bottle would have made it more interesting.
