Maverick34 (686), New York, USA Apr 27, 2007 Wow! I just stumbled on to this, inexplicably, a huge stash is newly arrived at my local supermarket across the street. Pours very dark brown black w/some head and some lacing. Aroma is strong, taste is strong and malty, some sweet & fruit tastes, I guess the alcohol is noticeable though I really don’t mind. Surprisingly good! Buying decent beer from regular grocers in Manhattan is tough so when your local provison store somehow, some way, ends up with a stash of this, you take notice. DrHomolka (722), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 26, 2007 2006 bottle. Pours a pretty dark brown/black color with a not much head, though inside the bottle was foamy as hell after I poured. Looks intense. Aroma is strong, syrupy malts. A bit of alcohol and the normal yeasty, strong belgian smell. Taste is strong, with some alcohol. Sweet, thick, and fruity. A little sweet and maybe a tad too much alcohol taste but I can’t complain. This was quality. Arayaga2 (931), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 23, 2007 Dark reddish brown with a quick fading bright brownish head. Aroma is rich with fruit, caramel and hops. Taste is sweet and smooth with raisin cherry finish. Alcohol warms but does not intrude on the taste. $9/750ml Jerre (1755), Waregem, Belgium Apr 21, 2007 Bottle, 75 cl. Dark red - light brown color with a light brownish head. Aroma sweet, fruity. Tastes alcholol along with strong malt, spices, caramel.
brewblackhole (1366), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Apr 21, 2007 2006 bottle, huge grape and raisin aroma, reminds me of a Mogan David Wine, other dark fruits evident, also a whoosh of alcohol. Huge dark fruit, raisin date ,grape taste, there is a sweetness to it. There is a touch of hop bitterness ,but thats mostly overwhelmed by the malt and yeast product. Alcohol presence always there, but not a problem. When this alcohol tones down, this will be a classic. As for now ,its merely fantastic glennmastrange (805), hobe sound, Florida, USA Apr 21, 2007 Bottle, 2006. Heavy doughy yeast smells with moderate molasses and background notes of prune and cola. It has a small, fizzy, off white head with good lacing and the color is a rust/brown which is suprisingly clear. Taste is moderately sweet with a long tart and dry finish. Palate is medium to full, chewy and oily in texture. There is a heavy alcohol feel in the finish. A very tasty and warming beer. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Apr 18, 2007 2006 bottle. This dark brown ale poured with a modest tan head, and a sweet fruity aroma. This is a full-bodied beer that is packed with a variety of flavors, including caramel malt, raisin, chocolate and warming alcohol. I know that it ages well, since I had a 2003 bottle a few months ago. FLnative80 (174), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 11, 2007 2006 Bottle. 1Pint 9.4 FL. OZ. Very appealing appearance. Sweet, sugary aroma of aroma of raisins and banana. Very smooth, balanced palate with an exceptionally long finish and nice amount of carbonation. Flavor is sweet and just alcoholic enough without being overpowering. Fantastic.
