LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Dec 9, 2006 750 ml 2006 bottled. Labled as 10% alcohol. Dark brown color with full brown head. Sweet toasted malt aroma and taste with an alcohol warming taste. Aegrus (49), USA Dec 3, 2006 Bottled. Tulip. Pours dark brown beer with a fading light tan head. Smells of raisins, chocolate and plums. Flavor is sweet, with toasty malts, chicory, caramel and spice. Carbonation feels a little sharp. Otherwise, the palette is round, full and right for the style. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Dec 3, 2006 Clear brown body. Plum and tootsie roll chocolate in teh aroma along with some peppery alcohol. The flavor sweetens up with dried fruit and chocolaty sweetness and a certain powdered sugar sweetness. Good mouthfeel. An enjoyably sweet Belgian. Sombeast (151), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Dec 1, 2006 2004 Bottle. Ruddy brown in color with a light head. Tempting aroma, fresh, vinous, spicy with a caramel raisin note. Effervescent on the tongue with a sharp but lingering malt-raisin-prune sourness. Medium body. Alcohol warms my belly without being obvious on the tongue. A solid and substantial beer worthy of the Emporer’s attentions. mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA Nov 27, 2006 Bottle from Whole Foods Market. 2006 bottle, 10%. Pours a dark ruby color with a little bit of foam. Strong sweet aromas of candy and dark fruits. Some banana and bubblegum as well as marshmellow. Smooth silky mouthfeel. A little spicy up front with a hint of yeast. Some raisin. Alot of dark fruits. Finish is dark and roasty with a hint of alcohol. Very nice beer. KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Nov 27, 2006 Bottle. Pours deep mahogany with amber highlights. Nice, creamy head of beige that leaves intricate lacing. Aroma of damp wood with spices and bitter fruit. Dull spices, notably coriander and nutmeg, greet the imbiber. Earthy flavors linger in the finish. Flavors are spread evenly; each is given its own turn to shine and gracefully bows to the next when its time is up. Great Belgian. 00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Nov 25, 2006 Pours a nice deep brown color with a nice froathy beige head. Aroma is very malty and slightly yeasty. Flavor is very nice. Has a nice bit of malt, hop, and floral to it. Alcohol was nicely hidden. Wonderful brew. Easily one of my favorites. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 21, 2006 Updated: Jul 14, 2007750. 2006. Beer is lightly hazy, very dark red brown with a small, white, frothy, almost totally and rapidly diminishing head.

First impression on the nose is that it’s warm and cozy sweet. The aroma is malty with moderate notes of toasted grain, caramel, cookie, brown sugar, light note of toffee; Hoppy with a moderate notes of resin/pine, thyme-like herb; Yeasty with light notes of dough and basement; Miscellany include a moderate-to-heavy note of alcohol, moderate dried currents and stone fruit, light marzipan.

The flavor is moderately-to-heavily sweet, lightly bitter with a long, tummy warming, moderately sweet, lightly-to-moderately bitter finish.

The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is average.
