| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 26, 2009 Dark brown - sweet, bitter, alcoholic flavor. Spicy with toffee fighting the bitter end. I like it, but it isn’t as easy drinking as I like. Still - interesting, and very good, especially if it isn’t your first beer of the night (it wasn’t for me). wimpie133 (155), Brugge, Belgium
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 25, 2009 Bottle, 75 cl shared with parket. The beer looks very dark, but surprisingly also wears a rather clear dark red colour. There is a little foam that lasts however. The smell is something like old prunes, a bit sweet and light caramel. The taste is light sweet, not too, and also the prunes come back to the foreground. There is also a bit of a warming alcoholic taste at the end. The beer starts fantastic, but doesn’t stay the whole bear long fantastic, maybe because it doens’t have a big pallet. Anyway a very good beer, I think the best of the Gouden Carolus-series! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 25, 2009 75 cl bottle (2008), dark reddish/brown colour and white/beige head. Smell of dried plums and another fruity touch. Taste: warming alcohol taste, also dried plums and other dried fruits, quite sugary but not too. This may be the best gouden carolus! Very nice beer! Not too much head on this bottle, but a delicious malty, fruity, toffee tasting beverage. I will save half of the bottle for tomorrow. gerome (18), France

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 15, 2009 Bottle, with Alaskanwarren in Denver. Deep russet pour, modest off-white head. Rum, buttered toffee, banana liqueur—sort of a raw, sugary aroma, with quite a bit of green alcohol. Rather raw and pokey flavor, especially up front while it was still a bit on the cool side. As it warms, viney sweet walnut, currents. Very big beer with lots of noise. Seems like it has packed for a long journey, and is rather awkward now, but in five years or so will have things all sorted out and be an impressive beer.
