gerome (18), France Jun 19, 2009 2000 Deep reddish brown colour, with an average off white head. Full aroma, spicy, toffee, light roasted, very malty, with some alcoholic-yeasty hints. Full body, creamy texture, Finish is rather strong, spicy, alcoholic ending dry. THis is the top.
matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jun 18, 2009 750 ml bottle from a KW group order. 2008 vintage. pours deep maroon with a tan head that reduces to a spotty tan cover. aromas of, dark fruit, yeast, decaying pale malt, alcohol. the flavour is a huge complex mess of everything but its awesome. goes down super easy for its strength. really a fantastic big dark belgian ale here and there’s not much holding it back from being rated higher by me. im glad i have more. BuckeyeBoy (1639), Boise, Idaho, USA Jun 16, 2009 Bottle vintage 06 Pours out a brown topped with a sand head. Aroma of spice and yeast along with some pit fruit. tast was lots of the same a nice banana tast and good spice. Pretty mellow. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Jun 15, 2009 Bottle, with Alaskanwarren in Denver. Deep russet pour, modest off-white head. Rum, buttered toffee, banana liqueur—sort of a raw, sugary aroma, with quite a bit of green alcohol. Rather raw and pokey flavor, especially up front while it was still a bit on the cool side. As it warms, viney sweet walnut, currents. Very big beer with lots of noise. Seems like it has packed for a long journey, and is rather awkward now, but in five years or so will have things all sorted out and be an impressive beer. Cirrhosis (607), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 11, 2009 2006 edition. Very dark but yet clear reddish brown, an off white cap that lasted a few min. the last skiff lasts the rest of the beer. Now that’s a tasty aroma strong and yummy, grape, perfume, some alcohol, raisins, I swear I smell some rye, and chocolate but the chocolate seems very wrong. The taste is sweet but bitterness lingers in the finish. Red wine, definitely taste rye, maybe a hint of piny hops, and grapes. Taste is awesome love this stuff, maybe the only bad thing I can say is it’s slightly thin. Can’t even taste the alcohol to much. Drink this if you can find it you won’t be disappointed Gmoney (250), ManchVegas, New Hampshire, USA Jun 10, 2009 on tap at Novare Res..ruddy brown pour ,small tan head ,good lacing.aroma is sweet, dark fruit, caramel, molasses and slight chocolate.flavor is sweet malt, fruity ,spicy, honey and toffee.alcohol is present but not overpowering. medium bodied ,soft carbonation ,smooth and delicious. farry (12), copenhagen, Denmark Jun 10, 2009 2004 VIintage.Found by accident at Fakta in copenhagen. When I asked how much it was they said it wasn t one of theirs so I got it for FREE.Cooled it down to about 12 and opened it straight away.Pours a redish brown with a tan head.Fruit and treacle toffee with a wonderfull lingering aftertaste slips down like a dream.Hope you did nt forget it in Fakta. Kestral (191), Oslo, Norway Jun 6, 2009 Pours dark reddish brown with a small fizzy head. Aroma is very sweet, raisin, dates, sweet chocolate and toffee, and a slight hint of hops. Inviting. Flavour is definitely sweet, chocolate, toffee and honey, dark fruits and spices. It’s saved from being cloying by a gentle hop bitterness in the finish. Nice and warming, alcohol very well hidden. Complex brew, there are more things I can’t pick out here. It’s surprisingly lacking the typical belgian yeast character. Round and full mouthfeel, subtle carbonation. Nice one!
