Commercial Description:
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

2004 vintage: pineapple, maple, prune, molassas, cookie dough, butter and bubble-gum in the nose; diminishing head and intricate lacing; rich, sweet and complex flavor, earthy cola, tobacco and licorice, dates and raisins, some hints of grape, toffee, musty yeast, and brown sugar; quite warming and a tad dry in the finish; smooth and creamy texture; the strength of the alcohol and dry finish prevent this from being cloying; this year is as good as 2002, ...... I’ll be cellaring a few more of these bad boys, for sure.

Red tinted brown pour with white head. Lots of nice lacing and carbonation. Sweet bourbony aroma with lots of fruit and bubble gum. Very smooth - hides its 11% alcohol extremely well! Slightly sweet malty flavor. Fruity with a bitter finish. A little bit of sourness as well

750 ml, 2001 bottle tasted in September 2008. Muddy brown color with scant white head. Aroma of malt and figs. Flavor of port, figs, cherries and nutmeg. Warm alcohol mist wafts over you towards the finish.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Pours dark maroon with a thin beige head. Smell is dark fruit, bubble gum and is slightly vinuous in the nose as well. Taste is dark fruit, winelike and semi dry in the finish with some belgian candi-sugar. Medium to thin body and lightly prickly carbonation. A touch boozy, and pretty nice for the style, though.

Pours a warm brown, with a thick but dissipating head. Spicy aroma - a *ton* of brown sugar on the nose. Sweet flavor, lively carbonation, with some dark fruits as well as the brown sugar dominating. Just a touch of tartness comes through, but it’s very much a dessert beer. Spices are prominent, too - a great holiday beer.

750ml Bottle: Sweet, vinous aroma of grapes, light alcohol, dark ripe fruit, brown sugar, light molasses, raisin, slight toffee, some malts, and a hint of chocolate. Aroma is very complex. Poured brown/dark orange/dark amber in color with a small, fizzy, creamy, tan head that lasted throughout. Slightly hazy. Sparkling. Good lacing. Medium sweet flavor. Tastes of malts, toffee, dark ripe fruit, light alcohol, slight vanilla, raisin, brown sugar, slight oak, light chocolate, slight rum, and maple syrup. Medium body. Lightly thick, syrupy texture. Average to lively carbonation. Sweet, maple syrup, toffee, and alcohol finish lingers a long time.
