COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

It pours copper with ruby highlights; the head is beige and foamy. The aroma has notes of: soy sauce, toffee, alcohol, figs, pumpernickel, and nuttiness. The taste is heavy sweet and medium umami; there are notes of: soy sauce, figs, cough syrup, liquorice, candy-sugar, toffee, and molasses. The palate is full medium-full bodied, sticky, light carbonation, and a long finish. Overall, very well balanced for how sweet it starts.

Bottle. Dark reddish brown with medium sized off white head. Very sweet malts, lots of peach, milk chocolate, wine gums, vanilla icecream, spices and some cognac. Full bodied and very nice creamy feel, with quite some alcohol presence. Good stuff!

Aroma of malt, caramel, plum, sweet fruits, hint of chocolate, candy sugar, spicy notes, raisins. Flavour is quite sweet, a bit too syrupy for me. Thick and full bodied. Nice ’dessert beer’.

750 ml bottle
Brown to ruby red beer with blonde big head. Aroma has anise, Belgian yeast, sugar, toffee, dark fruits and raisin. Flavor has sugary and toffeey sweetness with raisin and dark fruits. Quite full palate with quite strong carbonation. Very little bitterness but long aftertaste with dark sugar, toffee, raisin and Belgian yeast. A nice sweet dessert beer for slow sipping, Alcohol does not come through at all.

Bottle from Hopduvel. Nutty brown, quite a decent head which lasts for a while. Nose is caramel, almond, hazlenut, alcohol, brown sugar, smells lovely. Taste is lots of caramel, hazle nuts, brown sugar, syrup, very sweet. Lovely beer, one of the best Belgian strongs.

750 ml bottle. Pours a clear ruby reddish brown with a short lived beige head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, spices. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, red berries (strawberry, raspberry, cranberry), brown sugar. Finish is caramel, brown sugar, warming alcohol feel and port wine. Lingering spices, pepper, menthol and tobacco. Full body, boozey mouthfeel, average to strong carbonation. Very heavy, but so good!

Bottle from Danforth LCBO obtained without realizing what I had picked up until I got home & ratebeered it. Man, people like this stuff. Pours chestnut brown with a thin slice of foam on top. It’s a slow sipper, with a bowl of fruit - apples, plums, pears -- flavour profile & a candy store sugar load out. It’s pretty fantastic. Warming & boozy at 11% but the booze is pretty stealthy here. Two complaints: too sugary (carbonate it some more & it could be on the soda side of things) & a little thin in the mouth. This bottle should be shared with a friend but I’m taking care of it solo as I fight mages in Skyrim.

750ml bottle from LCBO, Greektown in Toronto, ON. 11,0% Alc./Vol. Pours an opaque ruby brown colour with half of finger of tanned head. Wine - like aroma with lots of fruity notes such as apples, grapes, pears and some plums. Taste is complex and surprisingly sweet. Not as fruity as the aroma but caramel and tofee are pronounced. Very high carbonation does not get in the spectacular flavour. (Unlike Chimay Red)

drank it next to a "westy 12" - this one is just "party" in aftertase. Worth every point it gets here. "One of our belgian wonders".

1.5l bottle. Reddish dark brown body, light brown head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, cloves, booze and dark fruits. There are a lot of things going on in the taste. Figs, reisins, ripe banana, cloves, caramel, chocolate and some fruity hops in the end. Truly awesome beer.
