COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

2012 Bottle .... Opened with a nice pop .... Deep plum pour with a creamy off white head .... aroma is of caramel malts, chocolate and light roasted malts with a dark fruity yeast ... think plums and figs in the aroma with a light belgian candi sugar ..... taste is of dark fruits (plums/figs), chocolate, caramel malts with a very light roasted malt and belgian candi sugar .... carbonation is soft and it has a nice creamy mouthfeel and lightly bitter in the finish .... abv is hidden well .... has aged well and has everything you want in a belgian strong

the scent was edged by strong metal. a sweetness dominates the first taste but the strong alcohol resides for a long visit in the aftertaste.

750ml 2013 years vintage brown corked and caked bottle, with a stylish looking golden lettered label, rated 11% ABV, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is hazy dark mahogany with a medium sized thick tan head, that reduced slowly leaving some lacing. Aroma and flavour of dates, figs, prunes, toffee, caramel, raisins, dark muscovado and a hint of spices. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. Palate is full bodied, syrup like oily sticky texture and soft carbonation. Overall a majestic beer with complex pleasant flavours dominated by caramel and dark fruits, a little too sweet but the alcohol is completely hidden.
