4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Papsoe (22984) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 24, 2005
(Bottle 75 cl) Vintage 1999 at 8,5% ABV. I bought this at the brewery at the day of it’s release. Great show with some sort of reenactment of the arrival of Keizer Karel in Mechelen. Wonder if that happens every year at this beers release or if was a one off? Anyways, this is an excellent brew. Dark brown with a huge, frothy, light-brown head. Extremely full-bodied, full of good ingredients. Loads of roasted malt with notes of syrup and dried fruits - dates in particular. Sweetness indeed, but more fruity and fresh - which is unusual for it’s kind. a great beer indeed. 070500

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 fiulijn (10421) - Como, ITALY - MAR 1, 2004
UPDATED: SEP 3, 2007 2007-09-02, corked bottle, vintage 2001, 6 years old, 8.5% ABV, 7-5-8-3-15=38 Not very complex but solid, with a good caramel aroma and flavor, but the bitterness is almost gone. The malt flavor at least doesn’t show aging. Interesting.
2004-02-27, corked bottle, vintage 2000, 4 years old, 8.5% ABV, 9-5-8-4-16=42 Brown color. Very good aroma: malt, candi sugar, oranges and other fruits. Better body structure than the other Gouden Carolus, sweet, initially with caramel, presenting some light liquorice later. Correct, good final.
