COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

Appearance: Almost ruby but slightly lighter, like caremelized brown sugar but with a reddish tint. Small off white thin head, fades quickly. Small bubbles adhering to the glass but I think that was my bad for not rinsing with cold water before pouring. Aroma: Cornucopia of boozy dark fruits, port like smell. Barnyard but in a good way (likely a by product of the yeast). Flavour: Lovely resiny (like honey) and fruity taste balanced well by nice toffee/caramel toastiness. Plums and prunes or figs prominent. Mouthfeel: Warming due to the 11% ABV but not overpowering and quite welcome on a cool evening after an afternoon of raking leaves! Not harsh in the finish at all. Overall: I am going to the LCBO tomorrow to pick up 3, which I will compare to this one, per the company this one is excellent to store several years!

750ml c&c bottle from Tim for Fathers Day. Poured a hazy orange brown with a larger creamy light beige head. Aroma is rather vinous, fruity, plum, brown bread, dough, red wine. Medium mouthfeel, smooth with lighter carbonation, and a long lingering aftertaste along with a good dose of heat. Flavor of red wine, prunes, plum, dry breads, grains, dough and yeast. Good stuff but BIG and it doesnt hide it.

Poured from a 750cc bottle. Cloudy dark brown with a beige head. Nose is caramel, roasted malt, dark dried fruit, nutmeg, and a hint of expresso. Flavour is dark dried fruit, molasses, dark chocolate, and roasted malts. Excellent Belgian strong ale.

Pours a deep, dark reddish brown with an offwhite head. Complex aromas of dark fruit, molasses, and a hint of hops at the finish. Smooth flavor that’s sticky on the palate with a tinge of alcohol on the back end. A good, and potent, strong Belgian ale.

Classic! All qualities needed for great Belgian strong are here. Interesting maltiness build. Theres overriped fruits and dark fruits, caramel note, candy sugar, some yeast and spices, toffee, some hops. Moderate sweetness with light bitterness. Well balanced and highly enjoyable brew.

Beautiful brown textur with a sweet smell. Taste like prunes and molasse, non intense, just perfect. Great beer for a late night talk. Cheers.
