COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

Top 3 beer for me, I especially loved the one I had that I let age for half a year, can’t wait to have my next one in a couple of years! Belgian Strong Ale that is dominated by the warm alcohol feel and a complex mix of yeast, malt, caramel, and dark fruits. My second bottle was heavy in prune, plum and dates in its flavour, with a caramel and warm aroma. A sipper to be sure, but one that never feels overbearing. Those who prefer their beers a little less sweet might not like this beer as much as I do, but this remains one of my favourites.

750ml bottle, vintage 2013. Deep ruby/brown with a creamy beige head that leaves thick rich lacing. Lots of berries in the aroma, dark dried fruits, strawberries, licorice, nuts, chocolate and phenols. Full bodied without being heavy, silky smooth and well rounded mouthfeel. Very deep and rich taste prunes, dates, figs, marzipan, fudge, licorice, blue cheese. Very good!

2008 vintage 2L magnum. Pours a murky copper brown with thin ring of bubbly tan brown head that leaves light lace. Aroma of dark fruits, sweet malts, burnt sugar, banana esters, and alcohol. Taste is dark chocolate and molasses up front, followed by cherries and plum, then fades to faint earth. Booze is hidden on the mouth except for a slight burn, still moderate carbonation, really complex, held up exceptionally well.

Surnotee ? On ne peut pas ne pas ne pas l’aimer. Ronde caramelisée, un équilibre d’école. Un grand classique, sans surprise mais aussi simple que fédératrice.
