Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

750ml bottle poured into a shaker pint. Three fingers of tan head settle to a nice cap and patches of lace leave evidence of the once great height. The beer is dark drown and mostly clear with sediment coming with later (or less gentle) pours. Aroma contains raisins, fig, caramel, cherries, and alcohol. Taste is sweet with molasses, candi sugar, dark fruits, and raisins. There is some spicy and mildly hoppy bitterness as well. Certainly a boozy burn on the swallow, but it doesnít detract. Medium-full body, lots of creamy carbonation, creamy texture, semi-dry finish that allows the residual sugars to leave their mark.

1.5l bottle. Reddish dark brown body, light brown head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, cloves, booze and dark fruits. There are a lot of things going on in the taste. Figs, reisins, ripe banana, cloves, caramel, chocolate and some fruity hops in the end. Truly awesome beer.

I first tried it in Kulminator, Antwerp! Then in Beer Festival, Brussels and then in Delirium, Brussels. Amazing taste and Aroma. Itís a special version of the íGouden Carolus Classicí with a stronger Aroma. Itís brewed only on the 24th of February every year

0.75L bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Malty aromas: caramel, chocolate, butterscotch. Flavor is quite sweet, with lots of butterscotch and some spice: anice and clove. Finishes with a chalky texture, and some herbu hop flavor along with alcohol. Full body with a thick mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Overall, a bit disappointing. Tasty enough, with lots of malt, but not much complexity.

12 oz 2013 bottle. Smell is huge. Dates. Plums. Sugary. Wine. Dry. Boozy. Rum. Roots Looks fine. Dark brown. Tan head. Wow powwow that is intense! Flavors like the smell. Super complex. Smooth. Sweet dried fruits fade to more yeasty earthy notes with no harshness. Palate is smooth. Carbonation compliments and holds a good mouthfeel that fades to dry with amazing flavors lingering. Well guys..... 277 beers in (plus 200 more from another certain site I was banned from) and itís finally happened. The perfect beer. I always imagined it would be from founders but this is it. Amazing flavors, perfect on the palate and pleasing to the nose. An absolute must.

Bottle pour. Dark brown with a large creamy tan head. Great aroma with Dark fruits, cherries, dates, raisins, and brown sugar. Creamy full body. Not overly flavorful, somewhat disappointing compared to the rest of the beer. Taste is mostly dark fruits, dates, and a very light alcohol finish. Extremely light alcohol taste for the percent.

[2012] 75cl bottle. Murky reddish brown with a frothy beige head. Flavors are bread, brown sugar, molasses, raisins, cherries, dates, chocolate and alcohol with spicy notes. Intensively sweet, it hasnít really subsided in two years. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, smooth texture.
