COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

750ml bottle poured into a shaker pint. Three fingers of tan head settle to a nice cap and patches of lace leave evidence of the once great height. The beer is dark drown and mostly clear with sediment coming with later (or less gentle) pours. Aroma contains raisins, fig, caramel, cherries, and alcohol. Taste is sweet with molasses, candi sugar, dark fruits, and raisins. There is some spicy and mildly hoppy bitterness as well. Certainly a boozy burn on the swallow, but it doesn’t detract. Medium-full body, lots of creamy carbonation, creamy texture, semi-dry finish that allows the residual sugars to leave their mark.

Bottle, deep dark brown with a lasting fine head, lightly woody and toasted toffee nose, sweet and warming, notes of liquorice and toffee, a little cocoa and earthy herbal bitterness, a bit cloying in the finish.

Very nice body. Big nose. Dark dried fruits, lots of plums, big banana bubblegum, sweet yeasty bread. Decent alcohol almost brandy-like, comes along with the big body. Little earthy notes in the background. Big and sweet without being cloying. Very long finish. Its a bit sweet for me, but I keep buying it here and there, its a classic !!

I dont care much for these types of beers anymore but I have to say this one is really good. Brown clear pour with tan frothy head. Aroma is nutty light cocoa, some banana, toffee, and raisin, with a nice earthyness. Taste is sweetish upfront with a drying roasty nuttyness and fruityness on finish. great beer.

Bottle from 2010 @ La Capsule, Lille and one from 2000 shared with Dark, happyhoppy and RudolphSayven - Color: deep dark black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: nice caramel and malt domination. Good sweet notes, like sirop. Taste: very sweet and smooth. Good palate (degraded with time), caramel and malt. Like a sirop on your mouth. This beer is amazing! Aftertaste: caramel and malt. Sweet brown sugar.
