COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

2014 edition 75cl shared bottle at home from Mitra, Maarssen. Body is hazy dark brown, head is big, beige, creamy, mostly lasting, good lacing. Nose is cocoa, flavor is milk chocolate, candy sweet, dried fruits, brown sugar. Heavy sweet, medium roasty bitter. Finish is medium lasting roasty medium bittersweet, medium alcohol warmth. Full body, sticky texture, average carbonation. Nice dessert beer, too sweet for me.

75 cl bottle at home. Dark brown to black color. Nose roasted malts, caramel, yeast, some citrus. Taste toffee, brown sugar, alcohol, yeast, some red fruit. Mouthfeel kinda sticky and sweet dry, with little hoppy bitterness. For me the sugars are way too overwhelming, despite all the flavors that it does have to offer.

750ml c&c bottle from Tim for Fathers Day. Poured a hazy orange brown with a larger creamy light beige head. Aroma is rather vinous, fruity, plum, brown bread, dough, red wine. Medium mouthfeel, smooth with lighter carbonation, and a long lingering aftertaste along with a good dose of heat. Flavor of red wine, prunes, plum, dry breads, grains, dough and yeast. Good stuff but BIG and it doesnt hide it.

Pours a deep, dark reddish brown with an offwhite head. Complex aromas of dark fruit, molasses, and a hint of hops at the finish. Smooth flavor that’s sticky on the palate with a tinge of alcohol on the back end. A good, and potent, strong Belgian ale.

Classic! All qualities needed for great Belgian strong are here. Interesting maltiness build. Theres overriped fruits and dark fruits, caramel note, candy sugar, some yeast and spices, toffee, some hops. Moderate sweetness with light bitterness. Well balanced and highly enjoyable brew.
