Nov 30, 2008 750 ml, 2001 bottle tasted in September 2008. Muddy brown color with scant white head. Aroma of malt and figs. Flavor of port, figs, cherries and nutmeg. Warm alcohol mist wafts over you towards the finish.

Feb 13, 2009 Millésimé 2008 et dégusté à l’autre oeil dans un verre de gouden carolus. Apparence brune ambré rougeâtrre légèrement cuivré et ayant peu de mousse. Arômes sucré de date,mélasse, sucre brun, caramel, noisette, levure fraiche et vanille bourbon. Goût de sirop d’érable, thé glacée, vanille bourbon avec un léger goût de levure légèrement salé. Bien gazéfier et ronde en bouche. Quelle bière! Je vie un autre moment de plénitude...

Jun 19, 2009 2000 Deep reddish brown colour, with an average off white head. Full aroma, spicy, toffee, light roasted, very malty, with some alcoholic-yeasty hints. Full body, creamy texture, Finish is rather strong, spicy, alcoholic ending dry. THis is the top.

Sep 8, 2009 I consider this beer as the best of all beers from Het Anker. One of my best strong ales. Not the absolut emperor of Belgian labels, but surely one of them.

Dec 21, 2001 Updated: Nov 21, 20062006 bottle (10%ABV). Head is initially average sized, frothy/fizzy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark orange-brown, unfiltered. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie, caramel, toasted bread), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with light notes of raisin, overripe banana, cinnamon, toffee, clove, brown sugar, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. This one always scores right around 4 for me, and the 2006 is no different (although the bottle was a gusher, which I don’t think I’ve seen in a Gouden Carolus beer before). Delicious stuff and pretty consistent in quality over the years. I really should probably cellar some of this and the Noel, as I always love ’em.

Jul 29, 2003 Smells like a banana split -- chocolate, vanilla, caramel, banana. Rich, sweet, sugary flavor,-- warm and bitter on the lips with cocoa and coffee. Loses carbonation too rapidly with some astringency in the palate. A very good and fairly balanced brew, in its category. Beautiful bottle, cap and deep coffee colored brew with good frothy tan head. It's obvious that this would do well with a couple years' cellaring.
