Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

Bottle gift from SJ. Belgian strong day. Nice notes of dark fruit, raisin, bread, caramel and hop. Nice sweet and bitter finish. One of the best strongs I ever had.

Butelka, edycja 2014, pite przy okazji slepego testu: http://tiny.pl/ggmvg . Niewysoka piana, ciemne, lekko oleiste pryz nalewaniu piwo. Aromaty owocowe (suszone sliwki, rodzynki, wisnie), melasa, pralinki skrzyzowane z wanilia imarcepanem. W ustach slodkie, wyklejajace, rozgrzewajace. Bardzo ladnie wywazone, a zarazem wyrozniajace sie sposrod innych swoimi deserowymi nutkami,. Jedno z najlepszych piw jakie mialem okazje pic. Choc w zwiazku ze swa swego rodzaju ulepkowatoscia, sadze, ze nie kazdemu bedzie pasowalo.
Edit - a propos food pairingu - to jest piwo, do ktorego wybitnie pasuje papieros ;)

750 ml bottle from Pacific Liquor in North Park. Pour is opaque black with a one finger, off-white, creamy head that maintains and leaves thick lacing. Nose is powerful, with black raspberry, cherry, port, hard candy, raisin, and alcohol aromas. Taste is quite sweet and syrupy, malt forward, almost cloying, strong molasses presence. Overall quite fruity and sweet with plenty of alcohol. Sticky texture, soft carbonation, long, sweet finish. Pretty decent, but probably wouldn’t repeat.

750ml bottle, year 2013 bottle. Hazy brown body with a medium/liw head. Molasses, figs, milk chocolate, dark sugar and raisin. The alcohol is well hidden (by now?).

Poured from bottle, 2015. Pours dark with small tan head that quickly vanishes. Definitely can taste the alcohol, but hopefully that goes away with age, placed another bottle in the cellar to find out. Has some molasses and raised flavors. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

75cl bottle. Opaque dark brown colour with a thin off-white head. Roast, caramel, molasses, raisins, figs and vinous in the aroma. Medium carbonation and medium to full body. Taste is complex with spicy, nutty and liquorice notes but mainly sweet. Overall, a very good beer.

2011 bottle from Systembolaget. Pours a hazy chestnut brown with tan head. Deep smell of molasses, rainsins, nuts, figs and some vinous notes. Complex taste of raisins, nuts, figs with some deep hazelnut notes and some liquorice. Perfectly balanced and perfectly hidden alcohol leading to a well-rounded semi-sweet raisin/prune finish. Lovely.

Pours a deep brown with a frothy and lacey light brown head. Aroma of brown sugar, dark dried fruits, caramel, alcohol and dates. Taste is brown sugar, caramel... Basically all the same as above with some residual sweetness bit it’s all so smooth and a great winter or festive warmer/share bottle!
