skortila (2476), Bunnik, Netherlands Jan 2, 2005 75 cl Bottle 2003. Aroma is superb. Very delicate. Caramel, malty, butter, licorice, some fruity notes (banana/oranges) and nutty. Hazy, brown coloured with a lasting, brown head, which looks quite good. Taste could use some extra aging, so I guess i’ll get an older bottle next time. Caramel - malty flavour, toffee, raisins, nuts, butter, some yeast and fruits. Pleasant, smooth palate. Very well balanced brew.
espenra (149), Oslo, Norway Nov 19, 2008 75cl bottle. 2005 vintage. It poured a dark deep red, almost brown colour with a medium big beige head that settled down fast in the glass. It has a very fruity aroma that tastes of black berries, nuts, caramel and roasted malts. The flavour is slightly bitter and tastes of dark caramel, malts, nuts and dark berries. It has a short aftertaste.
Hank1980 (413), Athens, Georgia, USA Nov 18, 2008 Tap at Trappeze. Poured clear dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet molases malt. Taste is fruit, malt, yeast, nut. Mouth is smooth. A solid brew. bellmyer (18), EAST MOLINE, Illinois, USA Nov 1, 2008 2008 vintage. Pour is deep brown with a big puffy off-white head that refuses to go away. Nice puffy cloud. Aroma is fruity but dark. Taste is complex with a warming alcohol hello. Malty yet sweet. Solid brew. Allen (683), Wölflinswil, Switzerland Oct 31, 2008 Vintage 2006. It pours a nut-brown beer with a small beige head. The nose is of figs, vitamin tablets, raisins, molasses, nutmeg and plum. Rather sweet and fruity. Quite a lot of molasses and apples in the taste. Both malty and yeasty - nicely balanced. It reminds me a bit of ’Uniebroue la Terrible’. Pleasantly woody. Notes of walnuts, vitamin tablets and figs showing up. Slightly lactic. Not much lacework. Full bodied. Sweet. Some alcohol appearing with the swallow. The finish is surprisingly good and quite yeasty with hints of rasins and mince pies. Pleasant, but definately not a wonderful beer in my opinion. I don’t share the same taste as Charles the fifth. But I agree on his following quote by the way: ’Paris is not a city, but a universe’. Thanks a lot bov for this beer! Skinnyviking (2948), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 31, 2008 Bottle. High creamy off-white long lasting head leaving nice curtains. Very dark clear red brown body. Raisin plum apple alcohol hops caramel roasted malt aroma. Smooth creamy roasted malt caramel raisin plum flavor and pleasant hops bitterness. Alcohol very well hidden.
