COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. Every year the public is invited to assist to the brewing process.
Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

Red tinted brown pour with white head. Lots of nice lacing and carbonation. Sweet bourbony aroma with lots of fruit and bubble gum. Very smooth - hides its 11% alcohol extremely well! Slightly sweet malty flavor. Fruity with a bitter finish. A little bit of sourness as well

Cloudy brown. Has all the characteristics of a quad except good head. The aroma is basement, dark fruit and bitter hops. The taste is ripe plum, ginger, dark sugar and yeast. The body is both fizzy then flat one after the other. The alcohol is well hidden and the beer finishes with a kick of bitterness.

Been wanting to try this for a while. Wonderful aroma of figs and sweet fruits. Taste is a rich caramel, a little nutty. This is a great beer - sorry I waited so long for my first but will not wait long for my second!

I am not the biggest Belgian style fan but this brew blows me away! Really enjoyed having the 2012 at the 1 year mark!

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. This is a very dark brown beer that pours with a creamy tan head. It has sweet, rich red fruity and vinous flavours, chocolate notes, spiciness, candi sugar and a warming vanilla finish.

Dark brown. Aroma is dark fruits and caramel richness. Taste is liquere sweet, dark fruits. Flavour deepens and lingers as it warms; mild bitterness. Palate is fruity sticky. Overall, very rich and tasty. Abv well hidden. Only critique - not super complex.

Poured in May 2013 from a 750 ml bottle dated 2011 and cellared since March 2011. Virtually opaque, dark-orange rusty brown with a 2-finger creamy khaki head and that lingers and eventually leaves excellent lacing. Aroma of raisins, dark fruit, figs, prunes, cherries, sweet roasted malt, toffee and English trifle. Taste of raisins, brown sugar, prunes, cherries, sweet roasted malt, toffee, chocolate, Russian black cherry loaf and sweet sherry. Sweet, but stunningly delicious. A fabulous dessert by its own right. Full/medium body and medium carbonation. The aging has removed all bitterness, leaving a sweet, fruity, complex and utterly delicious dessert beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012 bottle. Dark red brown with a slight off white head. No noticeable carbonation. Big aroma, really good. Malt, treacle, licorice, caramel, candy - just lovely sweet shop aromas, and booze. And beautiful flavour, all kinds of caramel sweetness and so well balanced. So smooth. Just lovely.
