Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Apr 21, 2009 Updated: Apr 23, 2009Bottle. Pours a golden orange body with a white fluffy head. Loaded to the brim with carbonation and yet none is lost in the body of the beer. Fruity aroma of apples and dark fruits. Etoh latent fruit with some light spices. Chewy mouth feel more like plum and candy sweet but somewhat subdued by the high carbonation. A light almost cinnamon character but i feel this is again the tremendous level of carbonation. A delicious belgian ale. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 16, 2009 My Bottom Line:
This seductive Belgian Strong Ale lures you in with its spicy oranges grounded in honeyed malts, before licorice and alcohol warmth make sure you remain under its lascivious spell.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thick sheet of foam bobs atop the hazy orangey golden, drawing plenty of lacing.
-Effervescence is pillowy, alleviating most of the dextrinous girth and making this almost easy to drink.
-The spiciness is also herbal and lightly bitter. More hops in the back would have been great.
-The licorice might get intense for some after a full glass.
-All flavors are perfectly integrated and balanced, just like all Het Anker strong ales as a matter of fact.
Bottle. uhre (339), Denmark Apr 12, 2009 Golden beer with a nice creamy head. Aroma of flowers, spicies and banana. Flavor is similar a twist of flowers perhaps from the spicies and then the banana flavor, which is in perfect balance with the other things. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Apr 10, 2009 (Bottled, 0.75l) Slightly hazy golden (almost opaque with yeast) with a smallish, bubbly and lacy head. Pale-malty aroma with saazy hops and hints of anise spiciness. Flavor has quite a bit of alcohol, with sweetish honey, moderate acidity, pale maltiness, and some smooth and aromatic, grassy-herby hops. With yeast, the alcohol gives some room to spiciness, making this more drinkable. Medium to full, slicky body with quite low carbonation and some alcohol burn. Decently malty body, but - especially without yeast - the alcohol is way too intrusive, and there’s no complexity. You could call this a Belgian malt liquour, until you get into the yeasty part. Even then, it’s well below the typical Anker quality. scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Apr 5, 2009 Max’s 72 Hour Belgian Beer Fest - Soft hazed gold, creamy white head. Yeasty sugared pear aromas warm to notes of honeyed blue cotton candy. Soft sweet fruity flavors round with a touch of hop bitterness. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation, light bitter finish. More one dimensional then I would have guessed. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Apr 4, 2009 I stumbled across this at the Sam’s in Downers Grove, Illinois, U.S.A... and I’ve been stumblin’ ever since... My left nut!, but this is a fine beer!. It pours a lively, deep golden body with a substantial, fluffy head that coats the glass with heavy lacework. The aroma has warm honeyed bread, apples and cherries, sweet pale malt, soapy yeast, red beans and brown rice... Wait! The last ones are what I have simmering on the stove! The flavor has a sugary fruit sweetness that somehow does not cloy, a light malty sweetness, a touch of citric tartness, and an afterthought of funk. Delicious! Probably won’t pair well with the red beans & rice, but I’ll suffer through it. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA Apr 1, 2009 Poured hazy gold with a huge, rocky white head that exploded out of my Old Guardian tulip glass. Thick white lacing. Tart, apples-and-spice nose with some yeast esters and a slight musty hay aroma. Crisp, effervescent mouthfeel that battles the stickiness in the finish. Sweet taste that was expected from the style. More pear and apples blended with spice and candied sugar. A funky yeast flavor follows along with a boozy finish. The 10% isn’t well-masked but it doesn’t take over the beer, either. I enjoyed it. Ober (1161), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Mar 30, 2009 A clear yellow/golden colored beer, with a tick foamy white head. The aroma of sweet malts with fruits and some alcohol. The taste of malts, with fruits like citrus. There are spices like coriander with flowers. A little sweet and sparkling. The aftertaste is bittersweet.
