Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer Rood/Red

Incredible white foam head. Smells like a beer. Taste does not match aroma at all. Creamy, some what sweet, and sour, a little fruit, like some previously unknown yellow berry.

(750 ml bottle (2008) from 1828 Vintage House, cellared for 7 mos. after purchase) Bitter, hot and fruity...Pours hazyish gold-amber with two fingers of pillowy white head that recede slowly to about 1/8" and stay. Aroma is sweetish and fruity, a bit of candy along with light yeast. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth, medium-full, perhaps very lightly sticky. Big, weepy rings of lacing. Flavor is initially quite sweet and hot. Tastes of cherry-like fruitiness overlain by a fairly hefty bitter bite. As it warms there is a soft chocolate note that develops along with a bit of pepper or spice in the finish. Hotness actually seems to tone down as it warms/gets deeper into bottle. Lingering bitter aftertaste. Actually quite a nice Belgian - it doesn’t disappoint.

Pilsner malty aroma, thick doughy head, wildly effervescent in the glass. initially sweet, stinging carbonic bite, dry wheat and a dry finish.

Importation avec bieropholie et dégusté avec viak,michaud et Glandine dans un verre de chimay. Apparence jaune ambré avec une mousse collante. Arômes fruité, de levure, de fruits des champs, raisin vert, coriande, houblon, agrumes et une touche de cidre de glace. Un goût fruité, sucre de canne, gingembre, orange, ananas. Un ressemblance avec un vin blanc mousseux de pomme et de poire. Une bière tous simplement géniale qui est ronde en bouche et d’un équilibre hors du commun. Une bière de rois me procurant une plénitude et un CARPE DIEM de plaisir...

Bottle. Big malty aroma, sweet and fruity. Bright golden body, huge white head. Flavor is too sweet, and not especially complex. Good, but not nearly as impressive as the Blue.

Bottle: Poured a bright yellow color ale with a nice big pure white foamy head with great retention and some good lacing. Aroma of apricot and peach ester is just incredible and must admit that not many brewery can get this much from their yeast. Taste is very smooth with no signs of alcohol and fruity esters are very well balanced with some sweet Belgian malt. Light floral hops are also noticeable. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no alcohol was discernable. Another winner from a top Belgian brewery that I have some a tendency to forget about.

Tap at Lucky Baldwin’s. The worst offering I have had from Het Anker. Nose is potent and hot, very like vodka. The flavor is spicy Belgian hops and the darkest green-leafy vegetable concentrate you can imagine. Just not very likable - very like a fugue.

PPWD Show. Not as nice as the blue stripe so doesn’t stand out as well in my mind. I do remember it was quite drinkable but will have to drink it again to really remember and note it’s hightlights.
