2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20 MilkmanDan (1943) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - OCT 18, 2008Big puffy head, slight over-foam but not too bad. Nose yeasty, lots of perfume and some breadiness. The alcohol is very strong in this one, easily the most boozy Gouden Carolus I’ve had, rather overpowering at first. After my palate adjusted, become more drinkable, fruity and a bit crisp. Has some odd bitterness notes to it like orange peels mixed with anise or something, doesn’t fit the beer well. Really overpoweringly strong, killed off any subtleness I might have been looking for.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Douberd (616) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 9, 2013
750 ml bottle, at home, poured into a tulip. ABV 10% and I’ll drink the whole bottle alone. Year 2013
Intense golden yellow colour on the body, with average activity in it. Three fingers tall head, colour is white to off-white. Average retention, light lacing on the glass.
Aroma is fruity, with the typical belgian yeast smell along. Alcohol is obvious on the aroma.
Very nice taste, very fruity, with malts, sweet at first, turns quickly to mildly bitter. The high ABV is obvious on the taste too. A little bit of bubblegum at the end.
Medium thickness on the body, carbonation slighty above average.
Overall, pretty good belgian ale and it only cost me 5euros, I have to return soon to my local beer shop and grab anothe pair of those for the cellar. Very tasty

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 superspak (1464) - Michigan, USA - APR 2, 2013
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/9/2009. Pours slightly cloudy golden amber color with a nice 2 finger fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big apricot, pear, golden raisin, apple, banana, bubblegum, honey, candi sugar, herbal, light pepper, clove, floral, and herbal earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of malt and fruity/spicy esters; with zero alcohol presence. Taste of apricot, golden raisin, pear, apple, banana, honey, candi sugar, clove, herbal, light pepper, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, honey, candi sugar, clove, herbal, light pepper, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of fruity and spicy notes; with a great malt balance and zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with and slick and fairly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent Belgian strong pale ale! Great complexity and balance of malt and fruity/spicy esters; and very smooth to sip on for 10%. A highly enjoyable offering.

Perfectly brewed beer with a old gold colour beer. Nice foam head solid standing on the beer. The first taste is alc sweetness with a floral middle and a balanced hop bitterness. The beer has a herby flavour that is lasting long on the pallet .
