3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
In bottle; 2010 version. This was actually quite good. A little spicy, with some hoppiness yet without the usual Belgian yeasty flair ... very easy drinking for 10%. Would definitely buy again

Brown body, light brown head. Aroma has caramelized apple and fudge. Belgian yeast and spices. I just love the Anker yeast. Flavour has apples, yeast, caramel, noble hops. Just perfect balance.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml cork bottle ‘2014 vintage’ opened with loud ‘pop’ bought at Craftissimo in Tsim Sha Tsui East.
Looks: Cloudy hazy orange honey colour with a ring of yeast sediments; Two and a half finger head and crumpety white foam which last for 3 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing with active carbonation.
Aroma: Very fragrant and sweet malt, with banana, pears, light apples, strong candied fruits, vanilla, alcohol, sugar, bubblegum, bread and strong Bel yeast.
Taste: Mid to strong sweet malt, with caramel, cherries, red fruits, alcohol, medium liquorices, light metallic, sugar, spices, white bread, strong Bel yeast, strong lemon, strong herbs, medium bitter hops and grass.
Body: Close to full body. Creamy and very slick palate.
Mouth Feel: Solid maltyness in thick background, very smooth and creamy. Pretty good red fruitness and some caramel, with strong booze in driving seat. Sweetness is strong but not cloying, with fairly strong spices and strong herbal lemon to round. Simple and nice!
Booze: the 10% is very well presented and managed, never domineering at any point with only slightly warming hint. Liquorices is notable but not overwhelming like most BSAs. Excellent!
Hoppiness: Absent in aroma. Spices, strong lemon, strong herbs and grass in taste; Bitterness combines with liquorices has strong herbal influence for a lasting, mid-to-high astringent sweet malty finish.
After Taste: Fairly dry. Creamy, spicy and boozy to mouth.
Comments: This one has strong malt, very creamy with excellent fruity aroma, strong but neat sweetness, well-hidden booze, and a very herbal citrusy finish. Like the rest of Gouden Carolus series, this one is straight forward strong Blond and doesn’t disappoint. A beauty!

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, 75cL. @Naintré with my dad. A yellow-brown opaque hazy beer with a big foamy white head ; good retention and lacing. Fruits (pear, light peach), flower, herb, biscuit, alcohol. Medium to heavy sweet, round, warming heavy ; bitter note. Full body, silky texture, average carbonation, warming sugary fruity finish. Overall, ok fruity sweet warming belgian ale ; too sugary and "heavy".

A great tripel, but lacks an acid note. Overall a great beer, but I got my preferences for less sweet-round beers.
