Good, or very good if you're really into licorice, which I'm not. Nice appearance, mild aroma. The anise is overplayed and also tweaks the palate. Finish is also dominated by that. Soooo. ... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drank with Rik 17-4-2014 at Hoegaarden. Looks nice dark. Taste is very very liquorice. Too bad. Unbalanced.

Dark brown with medium brown head. Aroma sweet malts, licorice, dried fruits. Taste sweet malty, lots of licorice. A fine beer but more of a winter beer than an easter brew.

Pours clear deep reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, anis, yeast and dried fruits. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long spicy, caramel and fruity finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Surprised I havenít reviewed this one yet... Picked this up at Brewerís Haven on Vista a couple weeks ago... Pours a fairly standard dark amber.. perhaps a little hazed.. 1" off white head has great retention and lacing. Nose is weird.. tons of anise... lesser clove and some dark plum.. "Belgian", yes but more "spiced" than Continental. Flavor has the same elements but with a little more dark sweet plum up front that actually helps magnify the anise/licorice notes... Body and carbonation are fine for a BSDA... I am just not digging the heavy licorice component.. I donít remember the anise being so pronounced, but I havenít had this one in years either... Oh well.. I doubt I will buy this again just based on my personal prejudices.

On tap at the brasserie adjacent the brewery. Dark brown pour with righ foamy off white head. Aroma of intense anise, light molasses, very spicy smelling. Taste is moderately sweet, lots of black licorice notes, very spicy. Palate is full bodied but finishes relatively dry. Nice dark belgian strong though not for anise haters.

Slightly sweet, amber aromas. Toffee, milk chocolate. Easter esters are drying, lightly floral, and herbal in the vein of anise/thyme/marjoram. Pretty finish.

Very dark brown colour. Aroma of aniseed balls. Flavours of very sweet aniseed and some liquorice. Rich and silky. Good quality but flavours are not to my taste.
