Black licorice jelly beans, an Easter tradition, now in a bottle. Lots of anise and licorice in the aroma and taste, brown/black body with silky, but full, beige head. Sweet malt smell, licorice and ouzo on the finish, some slight alcohol warmth. This a new Easter tradition I could get used to!

UPDATED: APR 22, 2014 75cl bottle served in a Delirium Tremens glass. Pours a dark brown colour with an off white head. Very complex taste of malts, dried fruits, anise and herbal notes. Similar to the Christmas edition but the anise notes are more subdued and the sweetness is less prominent. This beer seems hugely susceptible to temperature. The first bottle served at the recommended 6-9 degrees was very good however, served at a higher temperature seems sickly sweet with burnt sugar and an almost barley wine richness. Serve as per the brewers recommendation. Very good Easter brew and a quality addition to the Gouden Carolus range.

Good, or very good if you're really into licorice, which I'm not. Nice appearance, mild aroma. The anise is overplayed and also tweaks the palate. Finish is also dominated by that. Soooo. ... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
