Bottle, bought @ Den Franske Vinhandel, Roskilde.
Pours hazy brown with a medium, creamy yet fizzy off-white head. Aroma has lots of caramel, Belgian sugar, light liqourice, anise, coriander, light black pepper. Highish carbonation, dry and light creamy palate. Flavour is sweet, good sugary complexity, liqourice, anise, coriander, vinious, warming. A good herbal bitter finish. Good liqourice in the end. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a very dark red with bog off white head. Aromas of cherry, rust, floral hops, easter spice. Taste of boozey dark fruit, caramel, sweet malts, belgian candy sugar. Very warming and gives off some heat in the alcohol front. A little too metallic tasting for me especially when not stirred continually in my glass. Good Belgian.

Drake (5231) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - APR 30, 2012
C&C 750 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse Charlottesville., Pours a dark brown color with a large tan head. Perpetual head retention and decent lacing. Aroma of dark malts, bubblegum, huge spice notes including citrus peel, nutmeg, cinnamon as well as some floral notes. The taste is also very spicy with some of the same characteristics along with stone fruits, bubblegum, earthy notes, banana. Medium-full bodied, smooth, low carbonation. A little bit too sweet.

RSRIZZO (1683) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - APR 8, 2012
750ml corked and caged bottle poured into a Trappist glass at 38°. Color is a deep mahogany with good carbonation and a small tight tan head. Aroma of fruit and yeast. It has a medium body with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is slightly rich with toffee, dried cherries, raisins, a mellow hop spice and light bitterness on the end. In the after taste some Belgian yeast comes out giving a hint of banana and the other fruit flavors hang on. Overall its a great Belgian ale.

Bottle. High fluffy off-white lasting head. Very dark brown body. Roasted malt caramel coffee and an awful lot of star anise is present is aroma and flavor. Im my opionion the star anise is too dominant and too much of a good thing. Low carbonation, long aftertaste.

Almost made it to easter 2012, but not quite. So almost 2 years of age. This thing is doing VERY well. Great brown pour with ample khaki head and good retention. Notes of anise, brown sugar, belgian yeast, cake, plum, raisin, currants. Big creamy foamy body was quite nice. Despite the relatively high abv, the alcohol was very subdued. I will definitely pick up a bottle of this again if I find it.

Brewed in 2010. Sampled in 2012. This is a nice, full bodied, brown Belgian ale. Well balanced. This brew is sort of difficult for me to describe. It’s sweet and malty with hints of raisin and a trace of pancakes. The 9% is cloaked. Not sure what they eat for Easter in Belgium, but I suppose it would compliment a HoneyBaked ham here in the USA quite nicely.

75 cl bottle vintage 2010 (9%) @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, BBE 07.01.2012. Rated on 18.03.2011
Lots and lots of anise, some licorice and hints of spices too. Flavour has also lots of anise, some licorice and spices. Rather spicy, tasty and nice stuff in small amounts, but drinking the whole bottle would be a challenge.

Bottle from The Bottle Stop, Bramhall, Cheshire. Poured a dark brown with a red tint and a quickly fading grey brown head. Aroma has caramel, dark fruit, aniseed and licorice, leather. Flavour has licorice, Belgian yeast, spice, pepper. I do love the Gouden Carolus range and really enjoyed this one.
