I have always liked Gouden Carolus beers and this one makes no difference. Dark brown beer with a big head. Nice aroma includes anise and malty caramel. Taste is also sweet but not too sweet. Works perfectly with a lamb.

It is a very respectable brewer and this beer only strengthens my image of them. Although this one is almost exactly the same as the christmas beer for me as I am not able to find great differences

Draft… This beer rocks!… Pours deep, dark and crimson with a mid-sized, fluffy, white head. Great retention. The bouquet is a marriage of anise and dried dark fruits – mainly dates. Full-bodied and fatty with tingly carbonation. The flavor offers dark fruits and anise with an unassuming, but interesting hop profile that prevents this wonderful concoction from becoming cloying. Finishes sticky and sweet with a backhanded slap of licorice. Masterfully brewed with the malts and herbs taking the lead, but held in check by a thoughtful hop bill. Pulls up just short of being too sweet. World class stuff, this.

750 c&c from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. It’s a 2012 purchase, so I’m assuming it is not the 2010. Pours dark ruddy copper with a 3 finger foamy/creamy beige head. Aroma is strong - suggesting cola and peach with some decent raspy malt underpinning. Full bodied. Now I’m getting anise and something like creamy chocolate. This is amazing ale. It’s full of dark fruits and other things I can’t recognize. It’s extremely tasty. Finishes a bit on the sweet side, but with the flavor, and I’m assuming hop, that’s not really bothersome. Drinks way too easy.

Bottled (from Alko, Vaasa). Deep ruby red colour with a mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is toffee, dry fruits, mild spices and some caramel as well. Mild alcohol too, as it warms up a bit. Flavour is a bit spicy, some peppermmint, alcohol, toffee, sweet fruits, plum and mild liquorice. Gives a warm feeling, but not too much alcohol noteable in the flavour. Brilliant beer to have after bacon’n’eggs (a.k.a. breakfast beer).

Flaske 0,75l fra Alko Muonio. Påskekos i Skibotn 1 Apr 12. Mørk amber. Høyt, litt farget skum som varer en stund. God søt fruktig aroma. Smaken innholdsrik: Mandler, plommer & svisker. Forsiktig alkoholsødme i ettersmaken ellers er styrken godt kamuflert. KI=3
