EithCubes (2139), Indiana, USA Oct 30, 2009 Bottle. Nose has a dry, cellary yeast and dry, grassy hop profile - indisputably Belgian. Deep golden pour with a seemingly endless head of cream, minuscule, dense bubbles and froth. Taste is bone dry, a touch of warming alcohol under full pale malts with medium hinterspice. Touch of sourness under the herbal tones, controlled low bitterness, some nice peppery punch and rounding phenols. Very similar to my first homebrewed Belgian IPA, with less caramel and denser. swirling hop complexity, and a bit of brighter citrus spark soaring in the upper reaches of the hop stratosphere. Actually, alcohol is rather hidden for 8%. Very enjoyable, a nice showcase of noble hops in an often overlooked utilization. austone (997), Turku; Pori, Finland Oct 27, 2009 33cl bottle at Mallaskukko, Turku. Slghtly hazy golden, huge fluffy white head. Sweet, sugary aroma with exotic fruity hops, fresh pear, little dishwasher. Flavor has candi sugary Tripel feel, with earth and moderate hops, doesn’t show the alcohol. Bitterness nicely cuts the heavy sweetness. OK, I like the hops in this, though still a bit on the mild side. tarheels86 (700), Washington DC, USA Oct 23, 2009 330 mL into Unibroue tulip. Holy crap this is one of the best looking beers I’ve ever seen. Pours a cloudy light yellow with an towering, pillowy white head that rises six fingers high right out of the glass but doesn’t spill over because it’s so thick- rather it keeps piling on like massive whipped cream on a sundae. Leaves retarded lacing. Aroma is overripe tropical fruits, watermelon, honeydew melon, lemongrass, plus the usuals of candi sugar and yeast. Taste is amazing: lots of bananas, clove, muted herbal hops, orange peel, a bit of potpourri, lemon, and powerful alcohol. Really creamy mouthfeel with a drying, bitter aftertaste. Huge alcohol presence- the 8% feels like 9 or 10. I feel like this is the beer Jesus had at the last supper. It just looks and tastes divine. Lyncham (46), Ohio, USA Oct 21, 2009 The color is light gold color with a good carbonation. The head is very thick when poured. The beer is hoppy for a Belgain Ale but really that hoppy when it comes to an IPA or a Pale Ale. I was slightly disappointed on the lack of hops. This beer did not stand out from most blond strongs. Stefano (1321), Esbjerg, Denmark Oct 18, 2009 Cloudy golden colour with a big white head. Bready aroma with lots of floral hops. Flavor is a mild hoppiness, pepper, yeast, alcohol. Bitter hop finish. danielyabu (269), União da Vitória, Brazil Oct 18, 2009 large creamy white head. good lacing. mostly lasting. cloudy thick dark yellow body. aroma: milk chocolate, citric hints of orange and alcohol. if and ff: light sweetness and moderate bitterness. average duration. palate: full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation and metallic finish.magnífica espuma, parece nata; nao esconde o álcool, aquecimento alcoólico, álcool não prejudica o paladar; toques laranja no paladar; 130s hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Oct 12, 2009 8/13/09 on tap at papago...
hazy maple stained wood color with a soft white head and sticky clingy rings of lacing.
there’s something in the nose which reminds me of blanching water that has been used all day and always smells a bit like corn... minerals, spiciness tingles, faint bubblegum, straw, pale malt and its sweetness, florals, yeast and possibly orange.
initial pale malt and candi sweetness is cleaned off with a ton of grassy, floral and dry herbal hoppiness. bitter hoppy finish is followed by a yeasty aftertaste.
medium bodied, crisp and terribly easy to drink! 8/4/8/4/16/4.0 yalnikim (776), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 4, 2009 02/10/2009. 33cl bottle from Beerstore. Tastes like something between a strong golden ale and a tripel. Nice herbal notes, a little spice, volcanic carbonation that dries out the malt’s candy-like sweetness. Bitter finish. Delightfully good for a Friday afternoon. Hopsinjoor!
