Commercial Description:
Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma. 50 IBU / 18.6 Plato

330 ml. From Bev4less. Fairly typical golden pour. Aroma is like a really hoppy Pilsner. Flavor is very reminiscent of other uber hopped Belgian beers (think Chouffe Houblon Dobbelen), but there is a distinct Pilsner character to it as well. At any rate, it’s very very good.

On tap at Café Gollem, Amsterdam, 14th March 09. Golden colour. The nose and taste are dominated by the hop varieties giving it a very bitter character, but surprisingly, little sign of floral, grassy or perfumy notes. The alcohol is very well hidden and it’s an effective palate cleanser but I’d have liked some stronger flavours.

750 ml corked bottle. Beautiful hazy golden color with a huge fluffy white head. Banana, yeast, and lemon aromas. Champagne like carbonation and a very light mouthfeel. Alcohol, biscuit, yeast, candy, and fruit in the palate. Finish is a lingering hop bitterness. This is a great beer that has many layers of flavor. Highly drinkable. I am not giving up my Duvel, but this is a good beer!

It is a soft, rich, Belgian ale. Round malty body, Duvel-like yeast, and then the extra hops kick in. Golding, Spalt, Tradition and Saaz, according to the label. This does not add up t an extreme beer, but it adds another dimension to the beer, it gets more depth. This is going to be a new benchmark beer. Excellent craftsmanship from Het Anker again. Peaches, lemon, a hint of stable, summer flowers.

330 ml bottle (Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget), ABV is 8.0%. Ingredients include maize and sugar. Pale golden colour, slightly hazy, huge white head. Lovely complex fruity, sweetish and spicy aroma - fruitiness both from the yeast and the hops. The flavour is sweet and spicy with yeasty and fruity notes, and a distinct hoppy bitterness in the finish. High level of carbonation. Alcohol is noticeable.

Bottle (33cl). Shared by you-know-who ... thanks!...Cloudy yellow pour, huge lasting fluffy white head, with a weird, solid, Devil’s Tower-like plug of foam in the middle of the glass. Sweet and pungently grassy aroma - pear, candy, tons of yeast. Tastes the same, even grassier; thick on the tongue, quite an acidic bite to it; almost sugary up front, but a long funky-pungent linger. Very nice - I’d have this again for sure.

750ml caged&corked bottle. Pours deep yellow gold with some haze and a very thick white head. The aroma is hoppy and grassy with some soft spicy phenols. The flavor is subtly grainy with mild sweetness and hints of banana. There is also a lot of noble hop flavor. Mid-palate is dry and firmly bitter but not too bitter (like some crazy-hopped tripels). Finish is dry, grassy, bitter and warming with light fruit esters, subtle citrus, and some phenols. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and strongly carbonated. Overall, a decent beer but just not that memorable.

A hazy blonde ale with a thick creamy lacing white head. A pleasant green apple, fusel alcohol and catnip in aroma. In mouth, a sweet vanilla and spiced malt, very herbal and complex. Very good. On tap at American Flatbread, Burlington,VT, Nov. 30 2008, with Sponge and Goldorak.
