COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma. 50 IBU / 18.6 Plato

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/21/2013. Pours slightly cloudy golden orange color with a 3 finger dense and rocky white head with incredible retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, white grape, apricot, light banana, clove, black, pepper, floral, grass, herbal, honey, bread, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, hops, and pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, white grape, apricot, light banana, honey, biscuit, black pepper, floral, grass, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Moderate earthy bitterness/yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, white grape, apricot, light banana, honey, biscuit, clove, black pepper, floral, grass, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, hops, and pale malt flavors; with a great sweetness/spice/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth, moderately crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very excellent Belgian IPA style. All around great complexity and balance of yeast, hops, and malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottled from Bruisin’ Ales. Pours golden with an inch of white foam. Leaves a lot of lacing. Has some perfume qualities on the nose. Has a bit of the Belgian yeast thing on the tongue. Finishes with a bit of pepper. Has a slight alcohol burn but it still drinks really easy.

Bottle. Pours slightly cloudy deep golden with very thick head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, hops some fresh grassy notes. One of the more interesting Belgian strong ales I’ve tasted recently, nicely balanced, great hoppy flavours.

I like Belgian yeast a bit. I like IPAs. I did not like this beer at all. Super, super bitter with almost no pleasant notes. Very spicy hop profile, not tasty at all. Blah, had to drainpour this as the alcohol just shows right through. Rating from 2010, my blog.

Hazy straw yellow with good head. Lots of hops and malts, citrus, herbs, soft carbonation. Medium to long finish which isn’t as bitter as I imagined, well-rounded with a bit of sweetness even.

MonsterMagnet (150) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 15, 2014
Bottle. Pours hazy dark yellow with a large white head. Aroma: fruity, spicy. Taste: hay, wheat, citrus, fruity, spicy (juniper, peppers). Light sweet, medium bitterness, somewhat sour. It?s hard to describe this beer. The body is somewhat thin, but the finish a fairly long and dry. It?s like a tripel meets saison?
