Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma. 50 IBU / 18.6 Plato

330 ml bottle. Pours a hazy, light golden colour, with a big frothy white head. Hoppy aroma, some fruits, apricot sourness as well. Bitter flavor, fruits and citrus playing along.

Wow. Bright golden color, huge frothy sticky head. Maybe I shook this one up too much or something but there were some very very tiny particles in suspension. No big deal though. The head on this beer was magical though...super light and foamy, bright white, sticking to the glass, creating a meringue-like appearance. Had to pour this one really slowly and gently, it was pretty lively. The aroma was a nice grassy, hoppy, bittersweet, nice and sugary/malty/sweet in that Belgian kind of way. Flavors were predominantly sweet and malty, though there was a huge amount of bitterness from the hops. It was actually fairly subtle and well-blended... the right combimation of hops to create a rich earthy, grassy, funky quality... not just plain bitterness. The body was pretty huge, very rich, well-carbonated and champagne-like. Kind of a like a crazy super hoppy tripel. This beer was great, this brewery makes great beers, plain and simple.

Absurd amount of bready white head, tons of lacing, and turbid pale gold body. Aroma was somewhat funky hop, dandelion-honey, slightly sour, and herbal yeasty. Flavor was bitter citric, crisp spiciness (reminiscent of a wheat beer), honey, delicate buttered biscuit, and dandelion. Soft ale body, slight carbonation bite. Certainly a summer beer and quite an interesting belgian.

Interesting hoppy Belgian ale. Cloudy yellow pour. Sweet malt, light fruit, grass and herbs, and some spicy hops. It’s alright.

330 ml bottle. Huge, slowly diminishing fluffy white head. Foggy golden body. Strong grassy hop aroma with notes of flowers, pine and tropical fruits. Prominent bitterness in the flavor, pine and grass, backed by some pale malts with a strange suger-sweet accent. Notes of pepper and alcohol. Well-bodied. Bitter ending. Not very sophisticated, powerful with high drinkability though.

Pour a clear glowing golden with some particulate, lots of bubbles and a very large thin sudsy white foam on top. Floral and fruity hop aroma, a bit spicy, with sweet candy malt underneath. First taste has bit too much dulling alcohol, fruity, lightly sweet, a bit spicy, yeasty, nutty, slightly cheesed hops, mostly noble hops in the flavor a touch of citrus in the finish. Long perfume floral aftertaste. Creamy mouthful with a slight fluff, not sticky at all, medium/full feeling with lots of medium sized but soft carbonation.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2009 (330ml Bottle from Fat Cat, Norwich) Huge golden colour with huge white head. Good hop smell with hint of fresh flowers. Taste very hoppy and bitter. Brilliant. Full of flavour and a biscuit earthy malt. Citrus elements and dry finish. Alcohol very obvious but in good way. Warming with a prickly mouthfeel. Awesome.

330 ml. From Bev4less. Fairly typical golden pour. Aroma is like a really hoppy Pilsner. Flavor is very reminiscent of other uber hopped Belgian beers (think Chouffe Houblon Dobbelen), but there is a distinct Pilsner character to it as well. At any rate, it’s very very good.
