Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma. 50 IBU / 18.6 Plato

Hazy yellow color, good white head, lace. Cat piss, hemp-aroma. Good maltyness, a bit yeasty (lots of floating particles), fresh hayish hoppy flavor. Nice long hoppy aftertaste. Cat piss hops are not really something I like most, but otherwise ok brew from this world class brewery.

Pale yellow body along with a tall effervescent head that leaves clinging gobs of lace as the head recedes. A doughy aroma comes through with the typical yeast and honey sweetness of the style. A hop note is noticeably missing from the aroma. A bitter hop bite shows itself in the flavor as well as an expected yeasty spice, and tingly body. The dry bitterness persists throughout the body. Flavors of honey, hay, under baked bread, and grapes maybe. Pretty solid and enjoyable but it doesn’t wow me.

(750 ml bottle from 1828 Vintage House) A bitter Belgian... Cork ejects with alot of force. Pours cloudy light amber-blonde with a large foamy, fluffy whitish head that settles to about 1/8" and stays. Aroma has Band Aid, yeast, sweetish citrus, candy. Mouthfeel is light, soft and sticky. Thickish, well-defined rings of lacing. Tastes of Band Aid, light sweet candy, a bit fruity, yeast and a mild citrus note. Band Aid mostly dissipates after awhile. Quite bitter and a bit hot, esp. as it warms. Kind of a standard Belgian with added bitterness.

Pailhead (4413) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - AUG 29, 2008
Bottle: The aroma is a great combination of banana, pineapple, cotton candy, yeast, spice, and floral hops. It pours a slightly hazy gold with lots of fine sediment with a large creamy white head with great retention that leaves behind soapy clumps of lacing. The flavor starts with moderate banana, bubblegum, light pineapple, cotton candy, and faint yeastiness. The finish is a nice balance of floral hops, orange peel, faint pepper, and a touch of spice. As it warms, I do detect a hint of alcohol. Medium bodied with lively and soft carbonation.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2008 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. A cloudy, glowing tangerine body is topped with a rocky head of well retained, frothy foam. Nice, thick patches of lacing cling hard to the glass. The aroma is dry and floral/herbal, with a significant dose of aged, peppery hops. Lemongrass and orange rinds lend a significant pop to the nose, while dusty, bready yeast adds earthiness to the softly malted background. Flavors are the mirror image of the scent, grassy, herbal, and citrusy with a very dank, dusty yeast overtone. Medium bodied, with balanced carbonation, the mouthfeel is again very dry and peppery, finishing funky and bitter. This is a mighty fine brew. Belgian style IIPA all the way.

The aroma is very nice with lots of hops, bubble gum, cloves, fruit, and malt. The appearance is hazy gold with a huge head. The flavor has bananas and is like the aroma in every other way. The palate is smooth with a bitter finish. Overall it’s interesting but not one of the best from this otherwise fantastic brewer. It sits somewhere between a hef and an ipa.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a very large long lasting rocky white head that leaves great lacing. Aroma of spicy, floral, earthy, and fruity hops with sweet pilsner malt and yeast. Taste is banana, a good dose of hops, sweet pilsner malt, and yeast. Medium mouthfeel with spritzy carbonation, well hidden alcohol, moderate bitterness, and a dry spicy finish. Very good.

Bottle. Pale blonde, pours an enormous head. Citric hoparoma, chalky and milky. Firm oily citrus hopbitter flavor, lingering on in the almost creamy aftertaste. Delicious!
