redlight (1055), Winter Park, Florida, USA May 7, 2008 1st rating! Whoo hoo! Spicy hop aroma it reminds me of houblon chouffe but a little milder, spicy with trace hints of citrus in the nose. Pours slightly cloudy blonde with a huge thick white head, very frothy. The taste starts out bitter, with a lot of spicy hops, very feint hints of citrus, with a lot sweet malt background. A good "hoppy Belgian" ale. Very drinkable!
Papsoe (10459), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 11, 2008 (Bottle 75 cl) Pours a very hazy golden with floating impurities and a tall, frothy shaving foam-style lacing head. Aroma of yeast and fruit - very Belgian - and add to that quite some hoppiness. Quite full-bodied with sweetish malt and fruit and a fairly dry and bitter hop finish. 050908 Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Oct 10, 2008 Beige-light tan colour. Big head. Lots of cloudiness. Fresh herbal continental hops and dusty Belgian yeast. Dry, fairly bitter flavour. Lots of herbal hoppiness and thick bready pale malts. There are a lot of beers like this, but it is a very solid concept and this one is executed well. RCL (1075), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Oct 9, 2008 Lots of herbal hops with the yeastiness relegated to the background. Dry, lightly bitter hops on the finish. Not a bad heavily hopped Belgian. BOLTZ7555 (528), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Oct 8, 2008 Foam, foam, and more foam...practically needed to climb into the glass to drink the beer. 15" (okay, exaggerating a bit) ivory head with a murky lemon body. Citrus, spice, and dirty skunk find the nose. Flavor is mostly bitter hops but has a yeasty quality as well. Kind of like me as a kid...never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Beaver (488), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Oct 8, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a HUGE rocky white head that retains well.
The aroma is sweet bready malts and some floral pilsner style hops (saaz).
The flavor is sweet bready malts with a decent amount of bitterness in the hops. There are some metallic skunky off-notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lots of sharp carbonation.
Overall, tastes like an imperial pilsner. It’s not well balanced, fiarly flawed, and doesn’t really appeal to me.
