The aroma has dark caramel, cherries, and silky nutty vanilla, accompanied by spicy yeast. Dark fruity flavors, with molasses, light tart fruit, banana, and some spicy additions. Rather sweet and malty, though cleaned up by alcohol and dusty spice. Full bodied with smooth carbonation. Quite an elegant sipper for the holidays. Not quite magical, but solid. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 19, 2008 Bottle. Enticing dessert-y aroma. Dark fruits, banana pie with toasted nuts, grape bubblegum, nutmeg. Amazing that things as simple as malt and yeast can produce such an aroma. Pours a deep, dark coal brown with rich mahogany and cherry highlights. flavor is loaded with sweeter malts. Maple syrup, honey, dark, dried fruits... plums, raisins and dates. Brown sugar. Plenty of spice... clove and nutmeg. A decent amount of sweeter (banana and gummy) yeast esters compliment the malt throughout. Medium to full bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes lengthy with a touch of alcohol soaked fruitcake. Thanks John! Sparky27 (1583), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a one finger cream head and decent lacing. Nose is dark fruits, Belgian yeast and spice. Taste is plums, raisins and spice. There’s a hint of alcohol in the finish but it hides its 10.5ABV pretty well. Medium prickly mouth feel. Great Belgian. level4 (24), New Jersey, USA

Very complicated flavors that seem well balanced. Sweet, malty, fruity. This is an excellent brew. If I see it again, I’m picking some up and aging a bit more to see how it matures. stankenk (130), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA

I enjoyed the spices. Any christmas ale worth their stuff needs spices. Nutty multiness moves around.Classy :)
