Jan 10, 2008 Updated: Nov 20, 2009On tap @ the Delirium. My favorite of the night. Beautiful dark amber brown color with a thin cream head. Nose and flavor are rich dark fruits, toffee and caramel. I wish I would have taken better notes on this one!

Jan 9, 2008 75 cl. bottle from 2003. Pours a garnet color with an off white three finger head. Smells of black pepper, vanilla, mint, and caramel with a whiff of alcohol. Has a creamy yet lively mouthfeel. Medium to heavy bodied. Has a complex fruit, spice flavor of plums, apples, cinnamon, and black pepper, among others. Finishes with a nice peppery alcohol tang. 2004

Jan 8, 2008 Clear brown with small light brown head. Complex aroma with dates, plums, rum, toffee, yeast and anise. Flavor is sweet with fruits, rum, toffee, yeast and anise in the end. Very complex and full bodied. Lovely!

Jan 6, 2008 On tap at Badaboomz. Pours a dark slightly hazed reddish brown. Lightly sweet. Round malt. Fruity bit of bite. Subtle nose. Thinner body. Still. Low carbonation. Sweet. Rather tannic somehow. Dark malt character, raisins. Toasty, which I don’t care for much. Fruity cherry, with some spice perhaps. Higher alcohol in the flavor than the nose suggested (makes sense seeing the ABV here!). Lingering toasty finish. The toast and thinner body ruined it for me. Who knows, might be a good ager.

Jan 4, 2008 Murky red/brown body with cream head. Aroma of spices, candy sugar, and raisins. Flavors of caramel, sugared dates, licorice. Spicy in the finish with a nut like yeast. A nice warming sipping beer.

Jan 3, 2008 Dark brown body, short to medium beige head. Smells like dark fruit, alcohol, raisins, caramel. Warm and sweet flavours with an emphasis on licorice and asinette. Body is robust. It’s a rich and strong winter ale but I would have appreciated a litlle more balance, with some added hoppiness and bitterness, especially in the finish.

Jan 2, 2008 Draft at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor. Pours dark brown with no head and good lacing. The dominant aroma is licorice. The taste is winter spices, raisins, and a little cinnamon. Slightly bitter.

Jan 2, 2008 33cl bottle- Very dark brown in colour with an alcoholic nose with an appealing liquorice, roasted scent. LIquorice and raisins feature in the sweet taste. Delicious.
