chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA Jan 4, 2008 Murky red/brown body with cream head. Aroma of spices, candy sugar, and raisins. Flavors of caramel, sugared dates, licorice. Spicy in the finish with a nut like yeast. A nice warming sipping beer. CEZ (369), Milano, Italy Jan 3, 2008 Dark brown body, short to medium beige head. Smells like dark fruit, alcohol, raisins, caramel. Warm and sweet flavours with an emphasis on licorice and asinette. Body is robust. It’s a rich and strong winter ale but I would have appreciated a litlle more balance, with some added hoppiness and bitterness, especially in the finish. dsm (109), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jan 2, 2008 Draft at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor. Pours dark brown with no head and good lacing. The dominant aroma is licorice. The taste is winter spices, raisins, and a little cinnamon. Slightly bitter. SaintMatty (1189), Tallinn, Estonia Jan 2, 2008 33cl bottle- Very dark brown in colour with an alcoholic nose with an appealing liquorice, roasted scent. LIquorice and raisins feature in the sweet taste. Delicious. AgedOak (74), Ohio, USA Jan 1, 2008 From the bottle, pour is a ruby reddish/brown, with a meduim beige head. Aroma of malt and sweetness. Mouthfeel is very full with taste of burnt sugar, sweet malt and some nuttiness. Loads of carbonation in this ale with a nice sweet finish. Enjoyable on a cold winter evening with family members. Goodgrief (1143), Middletown, Delaware, USA Jan 1, 2008 Feb. 2006 - Beer poured dark brown with little head and lacing. Aroma was dark fruits...also smelled like molten brown sugar (reminds me of the wife baking)...very sweet. Flavor was tempered...not nearly as sweet as it smelled...dark fruity flavor, caramel, strong alcohol. Thick mouthfeel. A nice experience. BillKismet (1894), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 31, 2007 Brownish amber pour with tons of carbonation. Enjoyable yeasty elements with an alcohol and biscuity kick and perhaps some candi sugar. A strong ale for sure. TomDecapolis (3122), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 31, 2007 Pours a deep brown with lots of ruby/amber reddish highlights and a large bubbly/frothy off white head that left lacing. Aroma of molasses, licorice, brown sugar, nutty notes, Belgian yeast and some various spices. Flavor of toasted malt, nuts, Belgian spices and yeast, some brown sugar, light alcohol. Got more spicy as I drank this.
