Commercial Description:
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

Pours a deep burgundy-brown with a cream, light tan head. The nose is big and malty with spicy notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and a solid red wine-like note. Medium to full-bodied and slick with a dry woodiness and light alcohol on the finish. Sweet, malty and spicy with notes of cinnamon and anise concluding with a dry, vinous finish. A nice warming seasonal that’s definitely worth trying at least once.

Bomber....dark brown with reddish hues, creamy lt., brown sugar head....smells like a mix of vanilla and candy sugar muddled with apples and alcohol...the quick carbonation floods the mouth with alcohol, then distinct licorice, then alcohol, then licorice follows again...it gives me that "strong shot face"....bitter malty finish....needs time i’m thinkin’....just not my style of brew...perhaps I haven’t found just the right Belgian strong for me....or perhaps it has a lot to do with the licorice

Draft. Pours very dark and the result is very smooth, cinammony, and christmas tasting. Some malt etc. A great beer.

Its Christmas vacation at my house and I thought this would be a good one to help me relax in a house full of screaming teens (hopefully it works) The 750 ml bottle poured amber -ish brown the head for how long that it lasted in my Chimay challis was brownish but it turned to a nice lace. The mouth feel on this is incredibly smooth and it has a nice carbonation on the tongue. Aromas of sweet candy sugar along with Christmas spices (cinnamon, anise, cloves) with some dark fruit thrown in .Flavors of sweet malt , licorice along with a nice clean bitter finish to me it taste more like a spice than a hop bitter . It has a warming alcohol effect as well so this is a great winter sipper I will be looking for another one of these to put away for next year

Managed to sneak this one in at the Swan and Rushes, Leicester, on our S.Damagement lad’s night out. Aged blue cheese-tinged nose with nuts and slight cabbage. Smooth, narcotic ruby sipper steeped in marzipan, cherry and toffee headiness. Yellow piled suds. Definitely a dusting of cinammon in there. Maybe aniseed. But more than anything (as identified by Rob), Dandelion and Burdock. A fat, sweet, elusively spiced festive ale.

Pours dark ruby-brown with a small head. The aroma is sweet malt and fruity. The taste is slightly sweet malt, with dark fruits and complex spices and molasses. Nice mouth feel and warming when swallowed.

750ml bottle. The beer pours a dark redish/brown color with a thick tan head which dissipates pretty quickly. The beer has a caramel, dark fruit and holiday spice aroma, with generous portions of malts. A fantastic warming winter brew from Belgium. The alcohol is noticeable, though it does not detract too much even with it being 10.5%.
