beerking99 (199), USA Dec 6, 2007 Pours black, almost opaque, until raised to the light, when beautiful garnet highlights shine through. Head is huge, leaving a tan lace on the glass with each sip. Aroma is dark malt, candi suger and loads of dark fruit, including figs, dates and even some figgy pudding. Alcohol notes shine through in aroma. Flavor reveals more candi sugar, alcohol and dark fruits. Warming all the way down, leaving rich dark chocolate aftertaste. Body is suitably light for a Belgian style beer. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 6, 2007 Flaske. Only very lightly spiced, but the usual notes of fig, black cherries, dark caramel and molasses are present. The faintest nutmeg is also the only creature stirring, including the mouse. corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 2, 2007 Updated: Jan 5, 2008Pours a dark chestnut brown with a large forhty head. Very malty, spicy aroma with hints of dark fruit, chocolate and pepper. Sweet matly alcohol taste up front with a dry, peppery finish with hints of raisin and dark cherries. mreeves (257), Sammamish, Washington, USA Dec 2, 2007 Pours a very dark brown, approaching black. Carbonation and lacing fairly low, but not bad. Roasted, dark malt flavor, not much bitterness. A very nice, Belgian flavor with some roasty, raisiny, fruity flavors dominating. Really a beautiful, complex, very interesting beer. JoeinUccle (902), Brussels, Belgium Dec 2, 2007 A warm, spicy and tasty licorice bomb of a barley wine. 33 cL shared and sipped from snifters. Dark brown with a decently lasting off-white head. Big licorice and spices in the aromatics, some brandy notes. Light sweetness, mild licorice-and-hop bitterness. Thin and boozy and I’d like some more. PhillyHomeBrew (176), Forest Hills, New York, USA Dec 2, 2007 Brown unfiltered body with little head. Licorice flavor with brown sugar. Jose pistolas Philadelphia 12 oz tulip $7.50 egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 1, 2007 [2003 Draft @ Mug’s Ale House] Poured a lightly hazy red brown color with a small ring of off white bubbles, no lacing. Aroma of nuts, wood, caramel malts, dried fruits, and light oxidation. Taste of tart cherries, nuts, wood, spices, with toffee, light roast, and a bit of alcohol in the finish.
