Commercial Description:
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

Tastet it as well from draft as well from bottle. Very spicy beer. You already smell it. A very special tast, you will find also in the Brown Easter Bear. Also very strong and you feel it after drinking large bottle. A must for beer lovers

Bottle saying "Christmas Ale", from 2006. Amaazing brew indeed. Pours a dark hazy brown colour. Ha sa beaut of a brownish head though it doesnt last for long. The aroma is bustling with sweet caramel malt, fruits (raisins and figs), nuts and spices, which also are to be found profoundly in the flavour. Great mouthfeel with a nice tickeling touch of the alc. on the tongue. I drank several of these with an old brewer from Carlsberg, who said it was one the best beers he had tred in 40 years!

Bottle. Small tan creamy, fizzy head that was mostly lasting, fair amount of lacing, transparent, visible carbonation, and a ruby hue with brown highlights. Nose was malty, hints of chocolate and caramel, alcohol was noticeable, light floral notes, and dark fruit. Flavor was vinuous, malty, darkfruit, and some chocolate. Mouthfeel was tingly with a slight burning, warming sensation. Medium body. Wish this one would have come my way during the winter as it would have been a very nice brew to sip on on a cold, snowy night. Oh well. Definitely worthy of a try if you get chance.

The 750ml bottle poured a clear, deep ruby red beverage with a small creamy off-white head that was mostly lasting and left great lacing on the glass. The aroma was wonderful, displaying notes of banana, peach, cotton candy, licorice, coriander and caramel. The body was medium-full with soft carbonation and a silky, smooth texture. The flavor starts out moderately sweet staying that way throughout the medium-long finish. There is also a nice alcohol warmth at the end.

750 ml. Pours dark brown, ruby red when held to light. Head is light brown and small-medium. Aroma is slightly spicy toffee. Flavor is toffee-caramel with some alcohol warmth, turning to a dryer date-raisin-fig. Palate is creamy smooth with a nice dry prickly alcohol finish. A spiciness that subtly hints at coriander, ginger, and bitter orange peel. Excellent winter holiday warmer, even though I sampled in April!

750ml bottle, 10% alc. listed on label, pours a a dark brown ruby with a off-white head, nice lacing, spice, caramel and dark malt aromas, sweet & apple cider fragrances, faint alcohol in the background, light fruit scent, dark malt and caramel flavors with a citrus in the mouth, small bite in the finish, faint alcohol taste that was unveiled as it warmed, not overwhelming at all just in the background, this is a Winter Warmer drink, medium mouth feel.

Cloudy dark mahogany hue, with some reddish highlights, a tan-colored head, but falling quickly, and leaving laces, yeasty, fruity nose of candied orange peel, toasted malt, spicy nutmeg, sweet dark dried fruit of raisins, dates, plums, brown sugar, hint of chocolate in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet yeasty, curaçao fruity character, with a candied lemon peel fruitiness, spicy notes of nutmeg, anise, faint licorice, with a subtle Grand Marnier liquor alcoholic warmth mouthfeel, toasted and chocolate malt flavors, leading towards a malty, spicy anise, alcoholic finish.
