Bartzilla (441), San Diego, California, USA Dec 21, 2006 On tap @ Hamiltons. Heavy and strong adequately sums up this fine ale. Not one of those you’re going to have more than 1 glass of in an evening. A sweet, thick and heavy sipper. I had to use an Orval to wash this down. So, as you can tell, I was having a good night. spporras (260), Finland Dec 21, 2006 (Bottle BB 03/08/09) Alcoholic, anise and licorice aroma. Red brown colour, clear and small, light brown, more or less fully diminishing head with fair lacing. Sweet, anise, licorice, malty and slightly acidic (initial) flavour. Alcoholic, astringent, lively carbonated and medium to full-bodied palate. Good brew but slightly too alcoholic! 18/11/06 glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 19, 2006 Dark mahogoney and slightly cloudy with perfect head. Aroma of sweet dark fruit with some spices. Very tasty sweet caramel and dark fruit taste...Alcohol is sharp, but not out of control. Definitely enjoyed...but man, this would be fan freaking tastic after a few years of aging. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Dec 19, 2006 What a great beer, this is what a Belgian should taste like. Its pour is long and smooth. Its malts is whole and frothy. The many taste of fruits, caramel. toffee and mild mint makes this a winner among beer drinkers.
nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 19, 2006 I was really impressed with this one. I should have had this one for my 1000th. The aroma is complex with toasted malt, brown sugar, spice, dark fruit, bubble gum, and yeast. The appearance is amber brown with a nice foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma with a toasty, caramel emphasis. The palate is smooth with a nice warm toasty finish which is one of the best I have had. I really like this beer. anbrew (1), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA does not count Dec 19, 2006 Full flavored but wonderfully elegant, this does not taste like it’s 10.5%. Beautiful Gouden Carolus fruity aromatics with nice caramel in the mouth finishes with full but clean malts. Very nice. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Dec 18, 2006 mohogany pour with rising bubbles and frothy tan head. beautiful aroma of bananna, plum, raison, brown sugar, nutmeg and bubble gum. lively palate. 10% alcohol. This is fucking great. slight burn which is welcoming. dark fruits are sweet and the malts are thick and sticky. sugar dances on your tounge and melts like a maple sugar candy. Best Christmas brew that I’ve had to date. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Dec 17, 2006 On tap @ Coles. Buffalo, NY. Dark amber in color with long lasting full head. Flavor is all over the place with fruits & spices. alcohol is present but not overbearing.
